2020.07.30 06:46 cherenkov_blueSingapore is a Meritocracy* [EXTRA LONG POST]
Edit: Thank you for all the comments and chat messages! I'm trying to go through each one. Writing thoughtful comments in the midst of having a full-time job is HARD WORK. I think I've missed a few questions, drop me a message if you're interested in continuing a discussion, I'm open to listening! There has been a lot of good comments, a few with great perspectives, and now I have a whole lot of things to read up on. --- Now that the 2020 General Election is firmly in our rear-view mirror, there is something that I have been meaning to write about: institutionalized racism affecting the minorities, especially the Malays, in Singapore. If you are groaning at this thinking you have been misled by this post’s title, I assure you that by the end of this post you will understand the caveat behind the above-mentioned title. I plead for a little of your time and patience. We have seen many discussions online about majority privilege and systemic racism impacting the minorities. Many of you may have even participated in some of these discussions. I will not try to explain those terms for they have already been repeatedly debated to death. What this post aims to achieve is to bring to light Singapore’s history and government policies that have either benefited the majority race or kneecapped the minority race. Or both. Why am I doing this? It is frustrating to see some Singaporeans fully buying into the narrative that Singapore is a truly meritocratic society; that the government’s policies do not discriminate against minorities, or if a Singaporean worked hard enough he or she will succeed (whatever the definition of success is), or that we have anti-discriminatory laws that protect the minorities. Some even claim that the Malays enjoy special privileges due to Section 152 of the Constitution describing the special position of Malays, and that the Malays are blessed with free education in Singapore. Section 152, “Special Position”, free education for all Malays?
Minorities and special position of Malays 152.—(1) It shall be the responsibility of the Government constantly to care for the interests of the racial and religious minorities in Singapore. (2) The Government shall exercise its functions in such manner as to recognise the special position of the Malays, who are the indigenous people of Singapore, and accordingly it shall be the responsibility of the Government to protect, safeguard, support, foster and promote their political, educational, religious, economic, social and cultural interests and the Malay language.
"The aim of the government is not to turn out a few well-educated youths, nor a number of less well-educated boys; rather it is to improve the bulk of the people, and to make the son of a fisherman or a peasant a more intelligent fisherman or peasant than his father had been, and a man whose education will enable him to understand how his lot in life fits in with the scheme of life around him".
"The great object of education is to train a man to make a living.... you can teach Malays so that they do not lose their skill and craft in fishing and jungle work. Teach them the dignity of manual labour, so that they do not all become krannies (clerks) and I am sure you will not have the trouble which has arisen in India through over education"
2020.06.26 09:45 throwaway6468465647When Karen and a sheltered religious upbringing come together for the perfect storm
This is my story in my own words 10+ years ago in form of a statement made to our local divorce court, with identifying information (redacted) and [edits to support clarity], plus XX for the day of the month. My statement is a response to Karen’s libelous statement of me being a drug user and claiming I was molesting my own daughters. The judge admitted to never having read my statement, meaning that for almost 11 years, it has been sitting in some file cabinet at a courthouse in the US. It is a readily accessible public record if you know where to look. I think it’s time the world sees this. Why? Because I’m tired of being afraid, of being paranoid. Of thinking that the unknown person hitting me up online might be my ex in disguise (she did that). Or of thinking that I am not chatting with my daughter but with this narcissistic control freak of an ex-wife (I’m pretty sure she did that, too). I just want my side to be heard. Warning, it is very long (almost 7000 words), but full of bitter memories and Karen behavior. And yes, she had “the” haircut, more often than not demanded to speak to a manager, and she took the kids. She was a Karen before it was a thing. So much that for the longest time I thought the term “Karen” was based on her. I retyped this, to be able to copy and paste it. The original and the evidence is in my possession. It begins with a foreword explaining my reasoning for writing this at the time. Here we go: Despite the fact that (State) only has “no fault” as the guiding principle for dissolutions of marriage, Karen chose to make statements about me in her declaration that may influence the court in its decision making process concerning in particular the dissolution of the marriage between Karen and myself. This said, while the grounds for divorce should not be of any interest to the court, since Karen chose to make the statements she did, I will make my own as well, to show the court that I am not the person Karen portrays me to be, but a responsible man, who always gave his best for his family, putting Karen’s and our children’s needs before his own. These statements will also show that Karen will not accept responsibility for her own faults and actions, but would rather portray (herself) to be the victim, and go to any means necessary to defend this position, despite evidence to the contrary. They will also show that Karen has a careless attitude towards financial matters, is unable to provide a stable home for (our children), and has serious mental as well as physical health issues, which in the past have made her unable to care for our children, and potentially may do so in future. The following is a chronological timeline of events concerning my relationship with Karen to show her manipulative, deceptive, passive-aggressive behavior towards me as well as her mental illness in general. I request the court to subpoena Karen’s mental health and medical records from (various hospitals) and any and all primary care physicians and specialists she has seen since we were engaged, in order to substantiate some of the following claims: June 1994: Karen and I meet in (Europe). As my family has done in the past with other American visitors, I take Karen on a week-long tour of Europe. During this time Karen makes at least one inappropriate sexual advance on me, at my aunt’s apartment in (European town) [she snuck into my room at night, crawled into bed next to me and I woke up with her hand fondling my privates – I did not object to it as I was in sort of a shock and just froze, and it was the first time any girl had ever shown that sort of interest in me; I grew up in a very conservative religious family, knew that I was gay by 13 years of age but had just been through “conversion therapy”. In retrospect, I honestly thought I had been “healed” as my privates showed a “reaction”]. About one week later, before she leaves, she asks if we could have a long-distance relationship. I accept. September 1995: Karen returns to (Europe) as our long-distance relationship has not done so well. She gives me an ultimatum to either continue it, or to call it off. To show my commitment, my response is that I ask her to marry me and we are engaged. [I literally panicked – during the year the “evil homosexual thoughts” had come up again, and I thought that this was “the Lord’s way out”. Mind you, I did inform her prior to the marriage that I have had those feelings and had been to therapy. She knew.] December 1995: I fly to (the USA) to visit Karen and her parents. During this time we had consensual extramarital relations. We were planning to get married both legally and ecclesiastically in (Europe) in May 1996. January 1996: Karen advises me that she is allegedly pregnant with multiples. She had also become unemployed. The decision is made for her to come to (Europe) sooner. Before her move, she calls me again to advise me that she had lost both pregnancies. While Karen has an extensive medical history, I have not seen evidence that she was ever pregnant during this time. At a later time she confesses that it was a test of my integrity and intentions towards her and I had “passed”. She also tells me that she had tested former boyfriends of her in a similar fashion during high school, and at one point went so far as to show a newborn baby which belonged to (a friend of hers) to one of her boyfriends, claiming it was theirs. Karen was babysitting for (her friend) at the time and claims to have done this with her consent. [If you are wondering why I did not jump ship at this point: we were already engaged and I was too chicken. I wanted to save face. Because “even Joseph stood by Mary when she got pregnant with Jesus”. – Plus I still thought this was “the Lord’s way for me out of homosexuality”.] February 1996: Karen moves to (Europe). We begin the process of obtaining a marriage license. April XX, 1996: We are legally married in (my hometown in Europe), obtain her (European) residence permit and move to (my place of residence at the time in Europe) shortly afterwards, as I am studying at the (local university) to become a translator. I am in my second year. May XX, 1996: We return to my parents’ home in (my hometown) and get married at my home church in nearby (city). Summer of 1996: While out of college for the summer, I work at (a fast food place in a nearby European city). We obtain Karen’s work permit but she is unable to find work. She claims that she has been clinically depressed since the age of 14. While I did not notice this until this point, she becomes more and more discontent, homesick, and depressed during this time. She threatens to divorce me and move back to (the US). She also threatens to commit suicide. The first occurrence was during one night, when she goes to a nearby dead arm of (a major river) to drown herself. I find her there in her nightgown after searching for her for about an hour. She states later that suicide is a “security blanket” for her. During the same time she tells me about her involvement in occult practices as a teenager, and that she is still “demon possessed”. One night she plays out a “demonic” fight within herself, growls in low voices and attacks me physically. Being the religious person I was at the time [protestant evangelical Christian] I fully believe her and pray over her in tears. Eventually she “passes out” and a few minutes later returns, but not as herself, but allegedly as the archangel Michael, telling me that Karen needs me now more than ever and to not let go of her. Eventually, she falls asleep to wake up a little while later, this time as herself, supposedly not remembering anything. Towards the end of the summer, her mother asks what keeps us in (Europe), and our response is my tuition-free higher education. However, we make the decision, for Karen’s sake, to move to the United States. October 1996: We fly to (the US), and I enter the United States on the Visa Waiver program available for certain countries, with the intent to return within 90 days as required by law, if the situation would not work out here. Karen signs up with temp agencies. We live in Karen’s bedroom at her parents’ house (in her hometown). November 1996: We decide to stay in (the US) and so we start the adjustment of status process with the Immigration and Naturalization Service. I receive a temporary work permit and start working for (an employer) as a cook and van driver. February 1997: I am admitted as a conditional permanent resident. Sometime during this time, Karen begins to work for (her employer) at first a full 40 hours week, later reduced to part-time 25 hours per week, as she allegedly cannot handle full-time work. During this time I recall one incident of her disappearing. I contact (hometown) Police to file a missing persons report, including her description as well as a description of her vehicle, a 1988 Oldsmobile. She later returns in somewhat of a confused and dazed state, explaining that all she wanted to do was go to the mall to buy a dust ruffle (but she did not return with one.) Her brother is present for most of this. During another incident at this time, she threatens to commit vehicular suicide with her Oldsmobile and drove down (nearby suburban interstate highways) at a high rate of speed, exceeding 80 miles per hour. I try to keep up with her in my 1985 Nissan, but my vehicle is not powerful enough, and so I lose sight of her. I did not contact the police. May 1997: I begin work for (my main employer). I am still working for them today [this statement is from December 2009]. Summer of 1997: We move into the apartment (in her hometown). January 1998: I begin a second job at (a car rental company near my main job). November 1998: I resign from the second job at (the car rental company) and begin to work another second job for (a school bus company) as a substitute school bus driver, and work there until June 2005. The second jobs were worked in part because I worked swing shifts at my primary job at the time and wanted to do something constructive with my afternoons, and in part because of medical and other debt, such as her medical and mental health issues and pharmaceutical needs, as well as expenses for reproductive endocrinology. During this time, we trade my 1985 Nissan for a 1992 VW which Karen gets, and I take over the Oldsmobile. 1999: We wanted to have children early on, but due to confirmed infertility issues on my part (which make the January 1996 pregnancy implausible) we were unable to conceive on our own. Because Karen would not focus on anything besides getting pregnant, to the point of being obsessed with it, and (berating) me for the inability to produce children, the divorce and suicide threats continue. Eventually I reneged and suggested using a sperm bank to help her achieve her goal of a pregnancy. [Before that, she asked me to ask my brother to be a donor, as “that’s biblical”.] During this year, we trade the 1988 Olds for a 1995 VW. September 2000: Our first daughter is born. We had made the decision for Karen to be a stay-at-home mom before we got married. [She grew up with both parents working and did not like it, and childcare would have eaten her part-time wages.] She had lost her hob with (her employer) a few months prior. On top of her clinical depression, she develops postpartum depression. She starts to sleep a lot and thus neglect her household and parenting duties. She spends weekends in bed until noon some days, leaving care of (daughter 1) virtually entirely up to me. This weekend pattern continues for the remainder of our marriage. May 2001: We fly to Germany to visit my family. We sell the 1992 VW. July 2001: We rent the home of Karen’s parents at (her hometown) from her parents, as they want to be full-time RV’ers. They gift us a 1988 Ford, which I drive. Karen gets the 1995 VW. February 2002: Karen and (daughter 1) are involved in a motor-vehicle accident (at an intersection near hometown). Both Karen and (daughter 1) are injured, but not properly treated at (the local) Hospital. While she is not cited for the accident, the police report indicates failure to yield to oncoming traffic. Karen is convinced of her innocence in the accident and goes so far as to hire a private investigator who essentially confirms what the police report said all along. Karen also sues the opposing driver but loses, as he was not found at fault. Both Karen and I believe that (daughter 1)’s disabilities stem from this accident, but it was never proven, as neither was the closed brain injury Karen claims (daughter 1) has [she also jumped on the anti-vaxx bandwagon thinking they might be responsible as well]. Karen and I consulted with an attorney and it was decided that I, on (daughter 1)’s behalf, would sue Karen and the other driver, as she essentially was an innocent bystander to the accident. The attorney eventually dropped the case as there was not sufficient evidence to link (daughter 1)’s disability to the accident. Karen receives physical therapy due to pain associated with the car accident, which the auto insurance company eventually discontinues, after an independent panel decides it is no longer necessary. We purchase a 1996 Chrysler to replace the 1995 VW. September 2002: We move to an apartment complex in (her hometown) as Karen’s parents decide to sell their home. We find and purchase our home (in a nearby, cheaper, less affluent town) for $162,000. November 2002: We move to our home in (our new hometown). (Daugher 1) is enrolled at (a special needs center) to help her with her disabilities. Shortly after we move in, Karen confronts a neighbor about their use of their own property for the storage of disabled vehicles. It comes to a verbal altercation between one neighbor and me trying to defend Karen, even though she has no right to demand they move the vehicles. She begins a neighborhood watch programs for our street with the goal of “cleaning up the neighborhood” in order to turn it into something resembling (her more affluent hometown). The neighbors show little interest. Early 2003: Karen loses the feeling in her legs, and they give out underneath her as she is standing at the changing table. We take her to the hospital, where she is told that it’s all in her head and psychosomatic. I am close to running out of paid time off at work, and nobody in Karen’s family is willing or able to help, so I call my parents, and my mother is on the next plane to help with the household, so I can return to work. Karen speaks some (of my native language), but (daughter 1) does not, since the accident in 2002 [we had raised her bilingual from the get-go, but she lost all speech with the accident; doctors advised us to concentrate only on one language afterwards]. Karen is eventually diagnosed with fibromyalgia. Late 2003: We refinance our home in (our new hometown) for $185,000 in order to pay off medical debts, credit cards, and the car loan for the 1996 Chrysler. May/June 2004: We fly to (Europe) for two weeks [on my father's dime] to visit my family on the occasion of my father’s (round) birthday. Because Karen and my mother do not get along well, we agree beforehand that if the situation escalates, we would stay with a distant cousin of hers in (a nearby town). Karen provokes an incident where it comes to an escalation between her and my mother, and we move forward as agreed. For the remainder of the visit, she refuses to associate with my family. June 2004: We resume assisted reproductive treatment with some of the sperm samples we have left. The pregnancy is classified as high-risk, due to rhesus-factor incompatibility between Karen and the sperm donor, resulting in weekly trips to (medical center at the other end of the metro area) to see a specialist in order to check on the progress of the pregnancy. December 2004: At my company’s annual Christmas party, Karen approaches my manager to discuss my rate of pay and working hours. He politely but firmly rebukes her, saying that this is neither the time nor the place to be discussing this, and to contact him at the office during business hours. I am mortified, but he understands. April 2005: Our second daughter is born. As my paid-time-off account is still very low, my manager arranges to set me up at home so I can work at least part-time from there. Karen once again is diagnosed with postpartum depression and receives medication and treatment. (Daughter 2) is also very sick and requires continued monitoring due to neutropenia. June 2005: Due to the long commute from (the former hometown) for only a part-time second job, I transfer branches within (the school bus company) from (the old branch) to (another branch near our house). August/September 2005: I receive my commission as Notary Public. December 2005: We take out a $20,000 home equity line of credit to consolidate debt, pay off medical bills, and purchase a used 1992 Buick for $3,000 to replace the ailing 1988 Ford. We also purchase [at Karen’s request] a new Bosch washedryer set for approx. $2,500, as well as a Miele vacuum she “had to have” for $1,200, and new kitchen appliances for $3,000. We each also allocate $1,000 for “personal uses.” Karen decides to buy a Starbucks gift card for that amount. January XX, 2006: Karen, during a phone conversation with her psychiatrist, makes a threat against her own life and is picked up by a Sheriff’s deputy, who takes her to (a local hospital). This has a tremendous effect on (our daughters) as well as myself. Eventually, the children do not want to visit their mother in the hospital any more. January XX, 2006 [about 10 days later]: Karen is released from the psychiatric ward. February X, 2006: I return to work at (my company). February X, 2006 [1 day later]: Karen calls me at work, saying the kids were “driving her nuts,” that “she spanked them,” and that she “put them in their rooms.” She would lay down as she “could not deal with it anymore,” and hung up on me. One hour later she calls back, saying she “gave me enough time to get my ass home” and that this shows her “how much I really cared for the children and her.” She would be “out the door to an unspecified location” and would not “bother me ever again.” I leave work, and dial 911 on the way home. I arrive at home just as the Sheriff pulls up. Since she did not make a threat against her or the children, they could not detain her. However, since (daughter 2) still had neutropenia, it could be potentially life-threatening for her. The Sheriff puts Karen and the children on a missing persons list. At around 5 pm that day, I locate her at her sister’s apartment (on the other side of the metro area, about 1 h away). I call the police to let them know, and (the local) police check up in them to make sure they were all ok. I then drive (over there) to bring them home. February/March 2006: Karen begins or continues psychotherapy and counseling. Also, due to a change in work schedule at my primary employer, as well as the need to take care of my family, I resign from (the school bus company) and start my own side business as a mobile Notary Public. April 2006: Karen is diagnosed with sleep apnea, is given a CPAP machine, but most of the time does not use it. It is our ten year legal anniversary, and I surprise her with concert tickets to Celtic Woman in (further away major US city) as well as a getaway at (a resort town) for May. May 2006: We celebrate our 10th anniversary. Karen is upset as “all she got” was the concert tickets and a getaway. She wanted a diamond ring [couldn’t afford it due to her medical debt]. June 2006: Karen is issued a sample of (a famous patch involved in a class-action lawsuit) for hormone control reasons. July 4, 2006: Our children and I visit Karen’s parents for Independence Day. Karen refuses to come along. Later on we get a call from the hospital. She had overdosed on pain killers. After 36 hours in the emergency room she is transferred to the psychiatric ward. She later admits that she wanted to kill herself on a major holiday, so that I as well as our families would always remember. She was to be released but was also diagnosed with pancreatitis and later on with a pulmonary embolism and deep-vein thrombosis, so they keep her in the hospital. [By now we both had steadily gained weight, with both of us being around 300 lbs]. July XX, 2006: My mother flies in from (Europe) to once again help with the household, as referenced in Karen’s declaration. It was not that I had to “selfishly” return back to work, but that once again, my paid-time-off account was near zero, due to having to take off so much time in order to care for my family. We had no support from Karen’s family, so this was the only available option at the time. At this point, I am emotionally and physically drained from the events of the last six months. Despite my wife’s negative attitude towards my parents, she has no qualms about asking them for financial support when needed. Also, I have come to the conclusion, that if Karen threatens me with divorce again, she needs to follow through with it, as I cannot deal with this sword hanging over my head any more. Her threats stop for a while. July XX, 2006: Karen is released from the hospital. December 2006: In order to pay our mounting medical debt from Karen’s hospitalization this year, we increase our home equity line of credit by almost another $20,000. The notes on the house now total approx. $225,000. I buy her the diamond ring she complained about not receiving for our anniversary for approx. $1,500. We also remodel our home and install a 42” plasma TV and surround sound system for approx. $2,000. February 2007: The three year prepayment penalty on our first mortgage expired in December 2006, and so, because of dwindling revenue from my notary business, we decide to refinance again in order to consolidate our first and second mortgages into one. During this time, Karen also began an in-home business selling clothes on eBay. The business never came to fruition. The 1996 Chrysler breaks down and is replaced by a 2005 Chrysler. May 2007: Karen creates an online profile on Yahoo personals, advertising herself as a single mother living in (our hometown). She also chats and exchanges explicit pictures with a gentleman of Nigerian descent living in London, England. She wants to fly him to the United States. She also has been in touch with women who conceived their children with the same sperm donor and packs up her car one day while I am at work to move to (one of the southwestern US desert states) where a “friend” she has only known online resides. She gets as far as (the next state over) where she visits a mutual friend, and, due to the heat, decides to turn around back home. June 2007: Karen starts working for (a famous internet giant). Despite her health problems, she “wants to live a little” and begins to drink alcohol and smoke. November 2007: According to Karen, I am no longer fulfilling her sexual needs (I have no desire to do so at this point [we’re both upwards of 300 lbs at this point and the thought alone is “unpleasant”]). I also confide in her that the homosexual feelings I have been working to suppress for all these years [so much for ex-gay success stories] have resurfaced, but I do not want to destroy the marriage and so I’m asking for her support, and would seek counseling, thinking honesty is the best way to address this issue. Within one week, she has announced to her family and friends that I am gay. We agree to an open marriage. We interview [at her insistence] some of her potential “candidates” together. Later, I leave the house while she engages with them, at one point two in one night, as the first one did not “measure up.” I find a gentleman friend and admittedly have a relationship beyond a mere friendship with him. At Karen’s request, I call it off a month later and ask her to stop seeing other gentlemen as well. I also ask her to submit herself to STD tests before we resume relations, which she never did. We go through marital counseling through our church off and on over the years, but every time we go, Karen monopolizes the counselor’s time with a litany of all the things I do wrong. I rarely get a chance to get a word in or share my version of events. May 2008: We purchase a new travel trailer in order to spend more time together as a family. While we own it, we only take it out a few times, and those times, Karen sleeps away in the trailer, while I spend time with the children. December 2008: Karen has been on medical leave for several weeks and receives notice that she has been terminated from (the famous internet giant) as part of a downsizing effort. Until then, she has received several warnings about her absenteeism; however, she was not terminated because of this. As part of her severance, she remains on the payroll until February 2009, and, if she has not found new work by then, she would receive an additional two months of pay as well as two months of COBRA coverage, until April 2009. January 2009: The 2005 Chrysler is beginning to show problems, and Karen is dead set on buying a (almost new) Chrysler SUV despite her soon being unemployed. We are financed but need a down payment of $2,400, which we borrow from my father, with the promise that Karen would pay it back once her severance payment comes in. During this time, Karen purchases a Maltese-Yorkshire terrier mix sight unseen from a pet shop (2500 miles away). Rather than shipping it, I offer to drive (there) and pick it up, as the cost would be the same, and I would be able to do one of my favorite activities (which she despises): road trips. In the end, she asks to come along, and I agree. February 2009: Karen receives her final paycheck and files for unemployment. March 2009: Karen receives her severance pay, approximately $3,300 after taxes. She pays a $400 medical bill and spends the remainder within ten days, on frivolous things, without paying back the loan we received from my father. She also briefly finds work with a company, but is laid off again within a week, thus having to restart her claim. April 2009: We file our 2008 tax return, and due to the fact that we both for the first time in our marriage worked full time, find that we withheld too few taxes and owe $1,500 to the US Treasury and $2,700 to the state. During this time, Karen insists I see a psychiatrist as I allegedly display symptoms of manic depression, for which there is a history in my family. I have dealt with bouts of depression and anger since the January 2006 incidents, but have never raised a hand against Karen, which is not the case the other way around [it’s not just men who commit domestic violence]. I also got angry at times, especially when she recklessly spends money on unnecessary items. I see (a doctor) at his (local) office. He does not believe I have manic depression, but rather post-traumatic stress disorder caused in part by my upbringing, but also due to my marriage to Karen. May 2009: For our 13th anniversary, we take our travel trailer to (a romantic place under the stars). June X, 2009: Karen announces that she “had enough,” as I am not changing the way she would want me to, and has decided to move out. She is looking at apartments in the (internet and tech) area, as she hopes to find work with the high-tech industry there. At this point, I am at my wits end, as far as saving our marriage goes and simply give in, offering to pay her rent as a means of voluntary child support, but make it clear to her that I would not be able to afford the house as well as an apartment on our current budget, and that we would have to let the house go. She agrees to this, as she “never liked (less affluent town than her hometown)” anyway. She starts looking in the $600-650 range, then goes higher and higher, as “for only this amount more, she can get that much more.” I finally tell her that I will pay $800 a month, and she would have to cover the rest herself. June X, 2009 [1 day later]: On this Friday, Karen has made plans to visit a male friend in (new place where she wants to live). I am kept back at work beyond my usual time, and receive a call from Karen. She yells that I need to get home so she could go out, otherwise she would drop of the girls at work. I tell her I have no choice in this, due to mandatory overtime. I told her I would let her know as soon as I am close to getting done, and to drop the kids off at my workplace on her way to (the new place). Around 4 pm, I send her a message to tell her “to be on her way,” as it would take her about 20 minutes to get to my workplace. By 4:30 pm she has not shown up, and so I call her, asking where she is. (She is already halfway to the place where she would meet this guy.) I asked if the children were with her, and she replies no. I get upset, and she asks me what she should do. I tell her to turn around. I advise my manager of the situation and leave immediately. We make it to our home about the same time, at approximately 5 pm, finding the children watching TV. She had left our children completely unattended for an hour. Mid June 2009: Since I would be without a social network before long, I decide I need to find new friends. I have been losing weight since April 2009, starting at 325 lbs, and by mid-June have reached 295 lbs. I have been receiving advice from my brother in (Europe) who has a degree (in sports sciences). He recommends I seek local help or a workout buddy. I find (personal trainer) on craigslist, looking for a workout buddy and advertising his personal training services in the platonic male for male section. I set up an appointment and we begin a workout regimen several times a week. Karen is incorrect in citing my personal trainer as the reason for her moving out, as I did not even meet (personal trainer) until after she had already made the decision to move out. By June XX, 2009 [mid-month]: Karen finds an apartment in (new place). We have to come up with more than $2,000 for her to move in. I cannot pay June’s mortgage payment. I also pay for the moving truck. June XX, 2009 [end of month]: Karen moves out of the family home to (her new place). As I cannot afford (PT) as a personal trainer, I offer him a room in the family home in lieu of payment for his services. He helps me move Karen as well, as none of her friends would help her. The only other people that show up at her apartment to unload the moving truck are some people from Karen’s church. I move (the personal trainer) into my home the same day, as I had already rented the moving van. My plans are to purchase a motor home or travel trailer to live in once the house is foreclosed in the bankruptcy- Early July, 2009: Karen calls to ask when we could start dating again. I am flabbergasted at the notion. July 4, 2009: I spend the afternoon with Karen and the children at her apartment complex. In the evening, I celebrate at home with (personal trainer) and my neighbors, who indicate that they have seen what occurred over the years, and some of them are relieved that Karen has moved out [“I can finally get rid of my junk cars”]. As she took nearly everything out of the house, they offer furniture to me, but I decline, as (personal trainer) had a few items of his own. July XX, 2009 [mid-month]: I make arrangements to meet with a friend after work, to help him clean his apartment for his annual inspection. Because I knew I would be late, and (personal trainer) had no means of communicating, I leave my cell phone with him, and he takes me to work in my car. I am picked up by my other friend after work. I return home around 10:30 pm and find (personal trainer) is distraught. It appears that Karen has been calling the cell phone, but because it is not his, he did not answer it. She panicked, drove to our home from (her new place). (Personal trainer) was sitting in the family room watching TV, when she barged in demanding to know where I was and why (personal trainer) was not answering the phone. She said he was obligated to, which he declined. She grabbed my phone and searched through the text messages, finding some that are an explicit exchange between (personal trainer) and one of his friends. She then proceeds to my computer to try and hack into my email accounts [she has in-dept knowledge of this from her time at the well-known internet giant]. She had dropped the girls off at our next door neighbor’s house and goes there with my cell phone. She calls the police, and asks the Sheriff to evict him from the premises. The Sheriff arrives and declines, as (personal trainer) has the keys to the house, to my vehicle, and a note that he lives there legitimately. (Personal trainer) mentions that Karen has my cell phone and so the Sheriff goes next door to retrieve it. I was told that she left the premises at about 10 pm. It turns out, she had no money for a medication, and was looking to borrow $25, which our neighbor gave her. However, she dropped it in our driveway. (Personal trainer) did notice this, called her, and met her (at a nearby gas station) to give it to her. July XX, 2009 [1 day later]: I write Karen an email, saying that her behavior the night before went too far, and that we need to make the split permanent, i.e. divorce. July XX, 2009 [late month]: We file for bankruptcy protection under chapter 7 of the US bankruptcy code. We are listing the house and the travel trailer as being surrendered, but to keep the 2008 Chrysler SUV and to reaffirm the loan. In the end, the loan for the Chrysler is not reaffirmed and the vehicle repossessed, as neither one of us can afford the $365 per month payments. August 2009: (Personal trainer) and I believe it to be a good idea to rent out the remaining rooms. I leave the wording of the ad up to him. Only after the fact do I find out the stipulation of the rentals, and have him take down the ad. This is also in part as Karen does not want any more roommates in the house. In early August, Karen blackmails me into revealing my (sexuality) to my father. “If you’re not going to tell him, I will. He has to know.” [I believe she hopes that he will ostracize me due to their strict religious beliefs.] I speak to my father on August 11. He responds gracefully and understanding. In the meantime, Karen tells me that I am not welcome around her family members any more, and at least one has made a statement that could be perceived as a threat to my life [her uber-Christian, well-armed ex-army father]. “He should be taken out back and shot, to put him out of his misery.” After I tell her how my father reacted, she acts pleased, but then continues that I also needed to tell my siblings, repeating her attempt at blackmailing me. September 2009: Karen is hospitalized several times, once for another pulmonary embolism, the other time for mental health issues. Her oncologist advises her that she is “a ticking time bomb” and should not live alone with the children, as she could potentially keel over and die in a very short period of time. Her mental health related stay at (a local hospital) comes after she leaves a taxicab at a red light on her way to the hospital for a routine test on September 16, but in her mind, (the county social services) want to have her committed. She disappears for a few hours, during which I am making arrangements to pick up (daughter 1) from school. (Daughter 2) had stayed at Karen’s sister’s since the weekend. Karen is eventually found and this time taken to the psychiatric ward. October 2009: Karen hires an attorney to help her prepare the paperwork to file for dissolution of marriage. I meet with them at a (fast food restaurant in a nearby big city) under the condition that all we discuss are the pertinent points of the dissolution. It turns into a barrage of attacks against me, mostly from the attorney, and I leave disillusioned. During this time, she is hired by (another company), but falls ill shortly after. She is employed there for one month, and of that time works two weeks. She is let go in mid-November. I finally reveal my (sexuality) to my siblings. Every single one of them reacts supportive and not judgmental, despite our very religious upbringing. November 2009: Karen and I meet at my home to attempt to finalize our dissolution of marriage papers. We come to a consensus over two weekdays, and I am ready to file. The following day, she emails me, saying she had made some changes, which are nowhere near what we had agreed to previously. A week later, she requests another meeting to “finalize” the paperwork again. She threatens that she would file by herself if I did not respond. I hold off on my response and file for dissolution of marriage as the petitioner on November 30, with the basic parenting plan as agreed and the child support worksheet based on actual income for myself, and imputed income for Karen, as at this point I do not know what her income is. [The remaining statement is a listing of the supporting evidence for these allegations in my possession at the time (and still now). The judge never read it, saying it was too long, she also never looked at her medical records. At the last hearing, my visitation was reduced to a supervised minimum as I was made out to be a drug user and child molester (without evidence). I was supposed to undergo random weekly drug testing. My ex was awarded 80% of my net income, leaving me less than what a hovel of an apartment costs. Outside the court, Karen told me “I have no sympathy for you.” In shock, I went back to my home country, to my parents, and kept to myself for several months. I had always believed that if you did good, acted kindly and givingly, good things would come to you and that Lady Justice is impartial. That pretty notion went out the window. Anyway, I left my father as the point of contact. After a while, I made contact again, asking the court how the divorce was proceeding, if they needed any paperwork. I got either no response or “no paperwork needed”. When the final judgment came down, she was awarded all our goods, custody of the children, support based on 150% of my actual income at the time, and all valid, because “I had not participated”. The PTSD continues to this day, but I am tired of being afraid almost to the point of paranoia, hence this publication. In the last 10 years Karen has finished a higher education program but still cannot get a job, I’ve tried to get the child support people to adjust the judgment to the current conditions, all to no avail (in and of itself worth another post about math illiteracy at the state level), just to preserve the status quo. Just say no to Karen and just say no to religion. Both f*ck people up to no extend. P.S.: Karen, if somehow you came across this post, you will notice that I have left out all identifying information. Please think carefully about how you react to this. I suggest just letting it stand. If my personal identifying information should be divulged (which is against the rules of this platform), or if I start being harassed by you or other people not known to me privately, I will happily provide all the requested information (unlike last time) should you be investigated for welfare fraud again. You have been warned. I am no longer afraid of you. For all others that may recognize this case (it should only be close family and friends): Please do not disclose the identity of Karen (again, against the rules and a d*ck move). Do not harass her, either. Just let this stand here for what it is. I think life has punished her enough.]

I want to, quickly, before we get to our numbers, show you a couple of new graphs, one is an in-house and one is from one of the 3-4 websites tracking every state, that really shows us our journey thus far. Because of the People of Kentucky we are in, while it is still very fragile, a better place after having not just stopped, not just flattened, they are now calling it crushed the curve. We are in a better place, but one where we have to remember the lessons that we have learned
On April 23rd around 9:17am our office of technology services was made aware of a potential vulnerability in the UI portal. We immediately spoke to the individual who reported this incident and according to the report they could view documents uploaded to prove identity for other people. Working with the Commonwealth office of technology our office technology service office prevented any more unauthorized access by taking down the portal at 11:30am. By noon we have a temporary fix out and by midnight we have a full fix for the issue. We have notified the credit agencies and we will be sending direct information to those who may have experienced this data breach with instructions on checking their credit report and identity theft. We do not take this lightly and we continue to monitor the system as a high priority on a daily basis.
What do you plan for the mass evictions that will happen on June 1st? -- There seems to be some confusion but my order does not end on June 1st. This virus is still out there, we are going to make sure that order does not stop.
What role are you going to have in trying to figure out KHSAA, that commented on our youth sports plan? -- We provided it to them, they made some suggestions, and we incorporated those. We’re all thinking on the same lines. Different sports have different challenges. What I hope is that people are willing to be flexible. Maybe not think we have a sport in a certain month, because we've always had it. Maybe moving seasons, I hope we are open to it. It gives our student-athletes the best chance to play. I’d hate to see a spike. You’d hate to see them start to play a game or two then have to stop the season.
Alright, it’s Thursday at 5 o’clock, the time we come together and remember that we have faith that we will get through this coronavirus and we’re going to get through. We will get through this, and we will get through this together. (Andy signs in ASL) Say it with me: We will get through this, and we will get through this together.
We’re going to get through this together because we’ve got what it takes, we’re strong enough, and no matter what they throw at us, we will make sure that we make the right decisions, that we do the right things to protect the lives of Kentuckians, that we are our brother and sister’s keeper, we are going to get through this.
I remember watching a couple of final fours I wish I could take back from connecticut. I never want to lose to them again. It just takes a couple of minutes.
Second: Go online for your absentee ballot. Get on here, request it, and one will be sent to you in the mail. It’s that simple. There is no excuse, voting is one of the bedrock principles of our democracy. Go online today and request it. I know we have over 100K requests already but we ought to do better than that.
We’re starting to make videos for kids. This is important, our children are bearing some of the brunt of the trauma and we need to make sure we are providing the kind of advice for parents. Our first video is explaining masks to our kids and the second is the anxiety associated with parents going back to work. Mask Video & Parents Returning to Work Video
We hope for parents, especially for those with younger children, that it was helpful. It will be on our website. And now if you want to start moving them away from the TV, I’m going to give you a few minutes before getting into the meat of what we are going to get into tonight but we’ll make a few announcements while we do that.
Based on an extensive proposal with some changes, Kentucky Kingdom can open the week of June 29th. It will look very different, it was a very extensive proposal we appreciate the operators working on that with us.
Also we believe that that week, (June 29th) we will be able to have the type of protocols and guidance for limited opening on pools. It’s not going to be easy to meet that guidance and we don’t have it out yet but we will by that point. There will be very limited capacity and well need to make sure we can meet Social distancing guidelines. So we will be getting that together and giving folks time, that does not mean that a city will or will not choose to open public pools, it is a very limited period of time, there has been a huge hit on budgets, and even with states where they have taken this step, many cities have not done it and I ask you to trust in your local leaders on how they choose to do that. Alright so if the kids are away from the TV let’s start.
We've lost over 400 Kentuckians to this virus but our country, our Nation have lost over 100,000 Americans. I believe that happened mid to late yesterday. 100,000 of our brothers and sisters in the country, doesn’t matter exactly where they are located, those are lives lost, those are our fellow country men and women lost and that number these days we see lots of numbers, that’s staggering. It’s more Americans than we lost in Vietnam and the Korean Wars combined. It’s getting close to the numbers we lost in World War I. That is a profound and difficult and devastating loss. Each of those individuals with a family, and a community across this country, that is in pain. So, while we’re reopening, and reopening safely, we have to recognize that this was never just a flu and the steps that we took, the pain that we’ve gone through, every sacrifice we’ve made it was not only necessary but we still had significant and profound loss. How in Kentucky can we view 100K people lost? Well Rupp Arena seats a little under 24,000, Cardinal Stadium seats right around 65,000. We’ve lost more Americans than what we can put in those two facilities combined. And other than Louisville and Lexington, we don’t have another city, at least until we get done with this census, that’s reached 100,000. So picture either one, fully wiped out. We have to recognize the toll that this virus has taken, and the toll is going to take until we get that vaccine. And we have to honor these families and this loss, that this country has experienced by being committed to making sure that we reduce the loss going forward. I know Summer has hit, we can get our haircut and other opportunities, and some want to pretend that it never happened but it has happened, it has significantly happened. And the time of just 4 months that this occurred is a scar that is going to live on in our country. And so to recognize this moment, in time, I’ve asked Reverend C.B. Akins from Lexington who has served in so many different ways in his community and his state to lead us in a prayer for our country and our commonwealth for these 100,000+ individuals that we have lost.
Rev. Akins takes over:
Let’s pray together. Eternal God, the God of all people, because you are omniscient. There is nothing we can’t tell you that you don’t already know, so let me start by thanking you for clearing up busy schedules, to allow us to pause to collectively acknowledge you today. We are aware that not all storms come to disrupt our life, some come to clear our path. Your ways are not our ways and your thoughts are not our thoughts. Isaiah reminds us that there is no searching of your understanding. So we did not come today to call you on the carpet to explain. We came to thank you for your power and your willingness to sustain. Worldwide, COVID-19 had 350,000 reported deaths, 100K in the USA, and 400 in KY. These are staggering numbers of the arresting reality of this horrific pandemic. Still I refuse to be guilty either as a messenger of God or a man of color. I’m not mentioning the racial pandemic that has been devastating a segment of your people in this country for over 400 years. Emboldened now afresh, by people in powerful positions in public places. It is not that the minority population has been silent, but rather that the majority population has been deaf. The high number of deaths from the Coronavirus has been needless. And the continuous deaths of innocent black men and women is senseless. Frantic searches are underway in laboratories all over the world for a vaccine for COVID-19. But even if one is discovered, and I pray one will be, but if we ignore the cure for that pandemic as we have ignored the cure for the racial pandemic, having done so for political, economic, and aristocratic expediency, then all efforts will ultimately will be in vain. I pray God, that you strip us of the false assurance that grows from pride in our powers and ignorance of our ignorance. After you strip us, then bathe us in compassion, so our shared pain, will generate a powerful passion that will eventuate in reaching a divine purpose. As dark as this day may be, I am assured you did not bring us this far to leave us now. Hatred, divisiveness, and even death are but finite happenings. We cling to an infinite hope. You have already given us the panacea for all pandemics. You have told us what is good and what you require. That is to act justly, to love mercy, and to walk humbly before our God. you have not given us the spirit of fear, but of power, of love, and of a sound mind, if your people who were called by your name, would humble themselves and pray, turn from our wicked ways, and seek your face, you promised that you will hear from heaven, forgive our sins, and heal our land. Comfort us oh God, guide, guard, and govern us. God of all nations, known by many names, do it through Christ Jesus, My Lord. Amen.
Governor Beshear takes over.
Thank you Rev. Akins, for words we shouldn’t just hear, we should act upon.
I want to, quickly, before we get to our numbers, show you a couple of new graphs, one is an in-house and one is from one of the 3-4 websites tracking every state, that really shows us our journey thus far. On Monday I plan on walking through that journey that we have been on to defeat this virus from the very first day with our first case, to where we are today. Because when you look at it you can see the reasons we took steps and even though it’s only been, you know, several months, it seems so long ago. This shows you a couple of things, these were new cases by week, starting March 2nd, we had our first positive on March 6th, I remember it, it was a Friday, I had gone home to be with my kids, I got the call, and I sprinted back over here and we entered our state of emergency that very first day. I think we’re one of the only states that called a State of Emergency right at the beginning. But what we saw after that, week to week, all the way up to the week of April 12, the first 30-35 days was a doubling, if not sometimes more, week after week. This is the pandemic curve, this is that steady diagonal increase, that if it had continued at that rate, where it was that week of April 6th, and on that trajectory that had started on March the 7th, then by May the 4th, by that week out there would have been 16K new cases a week. 32K cases a week after that. That type of Philadelphia curve that we had seen, but one that was absolutely real and was growing. But you look after that week, of April 6-12, and you see that plateau, and it’s a little. When you look out to May 4th that’s when we did all of Green River and a couple of other places. But with that pandemic curve, doubling or more, every single week and where it could have led, we suddenly had a very abrupt plateau and end to that escalation. So what was it? Roughly two weeks before that week we started Healthy at Home, after gradually stepping into things, we launched Healthy at home. We had to close at that time a number of businesses that are now reopening. We took drastic and significant steps. It worked. It worked. A curve that as you can see, and at this time, we were looking at models that had some of the heaviest losses of human life that I could imagine, and the numbers impacted, going up to 80, 70% of our entire population. But Kentuckians came together. We sacrificed, we did what it took, we put our dreams on hold, and we stopped that pandemic curve. It was after 35 days of something that was absolutely getting out of control. And then we had about a 35 day plateau and guess what has happened the last 14 days? As recognized by a number of different groups that track this, we now have one of the better declines over the last 14 days and it continued today even with a ton more testing. It shows the steps that we have taken, that has not only worked but I believe it was Vox today that had us, based on a panel of experts, in one of the best positions as a state to reopen. Because of the People of Kentucky we are in, while it is still very fragile, a better place after having not just stopped, not just flattened, they are now calling it crushed the curve. We are in a better place, but one where we have to remember the lessons that we have learned. Let’s look at the line graph. This is from a separate group that’s looking at it, it’s the number of days since that first case, as they show it. And that was our initial increase. Look at it. I mean, this was our first 3 weeks and how quickly, it wasn’t just our total number, it was how quickly it would spread. And up to day 35, we saw a continued increase. Now we had put in some changes early on, some gradual ones that might have slightly impacted it but still, that is that significant doubling, every week, we were seeing. And imagine if you continued that curve, what it would look like. But again, right around day 35 we had been about two weeks into Healthy at Home. Again a little up and a little down. But that direct diagonal increase, stopped. Came down, and was basically flat with individual days of increase and decrease. And after having plateaued that for about the next 35 days, we finally start seeing the decrease. Now, this is public, this isn’t one we do, that last little increase they show is from the last 3 days that we announced on Tuesday and put them into 1 day. They didn’t give us the zero to fill in those other days, so in fact, if you do about the 120 we had each day. It’s still going down per day. So there’s no question if we go back in time, the steps that we have taken have caused us significant economic hardship and they have - I recognize that they have caused us significant economic hardship- if this curve had continues it would have been even more significant loss of life, and would have moved through our commonwealth rapidly and would not have spared those that are out there. So, our goal now is to keep this decreasing, it’s to try to make sure that once we initiated Healthy at Home that we stopped the way that that curve was moving and that we continue that decline. Now that we are where we are, now that we have enough testing, the contact tracing, now that we are reopening, I want to make sure that we don’t try to rewrite history about what we faced. An international, worldwide health pandemic that is deadly, devastating, and aggressive. I want to make sure that we remember what our sacrifices were for, and that people don’t try to negate them for a political gain or anything else. What we have lived is very real. The steps we took were very necessary, and we’re going to walk through all of them. What I will say on all of this, is that it doesn't just prove that Healthy at Home worked, and the CDC is saying it, UofL is saying it, and UK is saying it, but that the people of Kentucky came together to help save each other and to date they have. Where we were going was so much scarier than where we have been and thank goodness that people were willing to do the right thing, at the right time, even with the financial trauma that it has caused. We can rebuild financially, and we are, but we cannot bring back someone that we lost.
So, with that, we will continue to show how the numbers are in fact headed in the right direction and we are in this two week decrease. On Monday we talked about how we had under 200, every single day of the long weekend. Three days in a row we hadn’t seen a lot of those. And yesterday we had under 200 again, we just wanted to make sure that maybe labs were held up over the long weekend.
Positive cases today: 113 If we went back to the beginning that number would be concerning, where we don’t want 113 new people to have this virus, but, in a day we are testing so many this number continues to show a decrease that we should all be very grateful, very thankful for but very committed to ensuring that it continues.
Total confirmed cases: 9,184. We expected by May 4th we’d have 16k cases in a week. That’s where we’ve come. And That’s what you did. We ought to be proud of that. And we ought to remember what we’ve been through and what we’ve been through together.
Total tests conducted: 221,118 - Up about 20,000 from yesterday because we finally got this group in and only 300 of those are serology which is a certain type of test that might tell you if you had it in the past.
Total hospitalized: 2,180 - I believe the story we will tell is how our people came together and stopped what could have been a horrific situation from happening but another story we are going to have is how well our hospitals did with who they had, how quickly they stabilized them, and got so many out.
Currently hospitalized: 494
Total ever in ICU: 937
Currently in ICU: 88
Total recovered: 3,181
New deaths today: 9 And I wanna comment before I read the ages and gender, and counties that these individuals are from, to anyone that is saying we should just try to go back to our old normal and sacrifice those that this preys on, I could not disagree more. Our seniors are just as important, those that have these health conditions are just as important, as everyone else. To me they are Kentuckians, we love and we care about them. I am never going to ascribe to that type of thought that says we simply abandon those or we act like we can reopen fully, 100% not take any precautions, not do social distancing and somehow it won’t impact those that could be harmed the most.
New deaths by county: 80 M Boone, 71 M Grant, 66 M Jefferson, 85 M Boone, 85 M Boone, 72 F Warren, 67 F Butler, 70 M Kenton, 74 F Boone
All losses are a loss for Kentucky. Let’s light those houses up green and let’s ring those bells at 10am. This is a reminder that we are thinking of the Kentuckians we’ve lost, their families, and their communities. It’s the color of compassion and renewal as their souls move from their bodies to a better place. It’s something we’ve been doing from the beginning and we cannot stop now.
Racial breakdown of all cases: 74% Caucasian, 14.71% Black or African-American, 5.53% Asian, 5.37% Multiracial
Ethnicity breakdown of all cases: 85% non-Hispanic and 15% Hispanic
Racial breakdown of all deaths: 78.26% Caucasian, 18.21% Black or African-American (remember the percentage of our African-Americans in Kentucky is 8%), 1.9% Asian, 1.63% Multiracial
Ethnicity breakdown of all deaths: 97% non-Hispanic and 3% Hispanic
Long Term Care Facilities: 23 new residents and 10 new staff positive from yesterday, and 5 more resident-only deaths. 1,208 residents, 573 staff, 229 deaths
Tomorrow Secretary Friedlander will talk more on this.
We are now going to be able to add every State Park to our reopening. That includes Lake Cumberland, Lake Barkely, Blue Licks Battlefield, and Buck Horn Lake State Resort Park that had all had temporary housing are all able to reopen on June 1st. Lake Cumberland still has ongoing renovations so there will still be some occupancy issues. Remember the KY Horse Park will open on June 11th. And the first competitive horse show out there will be opened June 17th-21st. May 28th and 29th Fayette public schools are going to use the horse park for one of these graduations. People are making this really special for our graduates. I know that it’s different, I know their sacrifice, but I am seeing students have a very special, very different, experience that I think they will carry with them for the rest of their lives.
Michale Brown on Green River:
When we first heard of the news of the virus entering our prison and the rapid spike in cases it was a new world about how to deal with and how far it might go. The numbers today show that the work done all across the government and in fact by the inmates themselves has led to this leveling off. Two weeks ago we were able to report there were 50 staff members tested positive and 356 inmates that tested positive. Today we’re reporting 362 inmates are positive and 51 staff have tested positive and that’s total. A good number of the staff have recovered and we believe we will be able to announce the same for the inmates soon. We divided that population into 4 segments like we have talked about before. The new cases all came from that group that have been tested negative but that have been exposed which given the incubation period makes sense. We currently have no staff or inmates in the hospital out of the green river complex. It peaked at 9 and now there are none. Also the lessons we learned at Green River have been applied across our entire prison population. We can only report only 1 other positive test and 2 positive staff tests across our other facilities. It’s a plan implemented under stress but a plan that worked.
Josh Benton on a data breach: Before we get into the info on the security incident there is an update on claims, specifically on March and April claims. This week we were able to process over 15K claims that were held up. I think our progress and results are due to us putting our most seasoned staff on those difficult claims. We have a significant number of people that are “under investigation” in UI terms, but that means it simply means there is simply something that is missing or a piece of info that is inaccurate that has to be investigated and reviewed before their claim can be made. To discuss the data security issue the Governor mentioned. First I want to make a statement that we have more so than ever taken steps to protect individuals personal identifying information. We work daily with state and federal law enforcement to review our system and keep us apprised of common concerns from across the country as it relates to UI. April 23rd was the only day we heard about this and have had no new reports since. It’s also important to remember there were 2 verifiable reports that this happened and it happened only with UI claimants. There is no indication that the UI system was infiltrated from the outside, this was a situation that could only be viewed by other claimants. It’s also important to know that not everyone who logged in that day would have had that experience. It was only people who navigated through the system to view their identity documents and so we feel like there are very few people that could have experienced this but with that first report we acted to take the system down as soon as it was verified and the person who reported it explained to us what they saw. There is no indication that there were any additional incidents like this since April and nothing to suggest there was an external infiltration of the system. This could have only happened to people who uploaded identity documents prior to April 23rd. Identity documents do not stay in our system once they are processed so it’s a limited number of claimants that could have been affected. We have notified the credit agencies and we will be sending direct information to those who may have experienced this data breach with instructions on checking their credit report and identity theft. We do not take this lightly and we continue to monitor the system as a high priority on a daily basis.
Andy takes back over:
I’d like to thank Josh for his team’s quick response but I am not satisfied with the response. I have asked the IG to take a look at this to ensure our software is where it needs to be and to review the practices and procedures. I want to make sure that we respond quickly and correctly each and every time.
I am announcing tonight that we are making some changes going into the future. I am going to be reorganizing our cabinet to move the UI group to the Labor cabinet where it used to be. There are more resources and folks that are trained on the outside that can come in and help and it will give us some additional leadership that can come in and help direct us to where we need to be. It’s important that people know we are taking action and we do not take anyone’s delay lightly. Your claim is important for me, if you are suffering because we haven’t processed it fast enough. I want to take steps to make sure we can
Another announcement not related to COVID-19: We are making some investments in infrastructure. All across Kentucky with more than 5 million in grants going to KY cities and counties. Hart county is receiving $1.5M in a community development block grant for their wastewater treatment facility. City of Lancaster is going to receive $1M to improve their sanitary sewer system. Perry county- $1.169M in conjunction with another 604k for the Vitco (?) Wastewater treatment plant. City of Edmonton, $500k paired with another 4.5M million in local funds, for their water storage and distribution system. Estill County currently loses 39% of all water produced; the project will provide clean, more efficient water to over 215 businesses and 3,600 households. Manchester $126K ARC grant for the Goose Creek sewer line, to provide for 25 businesses and 150 households. As we rebuild infrastructure is absolutely critical, we are not stopping the other jobs that we have to do during this crisis. We are going to continue to provide to the local communities.
Want to make sure we’re clear- if you are affected by the data breach- you will get an email? -- We do not know yet, but we don’t believe that data has been used to harm them. So what you do is look at all the data and anyone that could potentially have had data taken. The amount of people that will get the notice will be much larger. I believe right now it’s based on just a handful of reports, that were on there for legitimate reasons, that were able to see sensitive documents that weren’t theirs.
If you don’t get an email or letter- your document was not on the system at that time. But if you do get one, that right now it’s out of an abundance of caution. I get them every day from yahoo, cause i still have a yahoo account. This is apart of our new technology society.
What were the circumstances that allowed Kentucky Kingdom to open? -- The circumstances are based on their 300+ page sets of guidelines, along with a few new ones like hand sanitizer stations and a phased reopening. It’s based on what they provided with Dr. Stack’s input. It’s very similar to Churchill’s proposal. That proposal is an open record, if you haven’t seen it we can provide it.
State parks this summer, as you’re asking people to stay in state. Are you afraid of too many people trying to crowd them? -- We are going to be monitoring the situation. We will look at our bookings, we will make sure we don’t have the density that is there and we will be policing social distancing. I believe our state parks can do this the right way and my goal is for them to be a model.
What do you plan for the mass evictions that will happen on June 1st? -- There seems to be some confusion but my order does not end on June 1st. This virus is still out there, we are going to make sure that order does not stop.
Any thoughts on the KY State Fair plan? -- Didn’t see it yet.
AG’s is having a meeting on executive powers, Has the governor’s office been invited? -- No we have not been invited. I would hope they don’t comment on those powers just based on party but rather have a real discussion on it
More about the data breach. Do you know if there’s anything going to be done to rectify the situation? -- I can answer the second part of the question, because the cabinet didn’t think it qualified as a data breach under the law. I do. I learned about this from an email between the AG and the cabinet late last week. I wasn’t going to let the fact it happened over a month ago stop us from doing the right thing.

At the same time at least 25 mortar shells were fired into Budrus (neighbouring village) before IDF troops simultaneously entered the village from 3 sides. Ariel Sharon later wrote: "The orders were clear, Qibya was to be an example for everyone." Throughout our species' history on this planet, we've been soft, weak, slow, and defenseless save for our giant brains. Our brains have made all the difference, making us the apex predator of all apex predators (how many other apex predators keep and raise their own food animals??), but have been limited due to limited knowledge and understanding of the world. Reality has proven very difficult for us to wrap our minds around, and it's so filled with terror that we've made up all sorts of "fixes" to try and assuage our fear, make ourselves feel bettemore secure. We've made up various sorts of "gods" who control everything we can't understand, and we've made up all sorts of rituals and rites to appease these gods' obvious wrath, and so we dance and sing and chant and think really really hard at the ceiling and sacrifice - and sometimes it works! Until it doesn't. One of my personal fascinations is the cholera pandemics of the 19th Century, a disease so devastating that it destroyed in numbers/proportion comparable to the Black Death. Cholera, a diarrhea disease, was spread through water contaminated with fecal matter, and it was virulently contagious. Back then, there was no indoor plumbing; people shat in a bucket and then either just dumped the bucket outside or had someone carry it to the nearest cesspit - a big hole in the ground where everybody dumped their waste. Because people didn't understand diddly squat about sanitation, these cesspits might be anywhere - right next to a well, or near a stream where people took drinking water from. In London, people dumped their crap into the Thames River, and downstream, tons of people got sick. All this suffering eventually led to public sanitation programs and resulted in our modern sewage treatment systems, thanks to science. No thanks to religion. Back then, both in England and in the USA, religious leaders were calling for national days of "prayer, fasting, and humiliation", to show their gods that we were all really, really sorry (for what? Didn't matter) and would they please lift the curse? Pretty please?? The nature of the cholera plague was cyclical - the dread disease struck every couple decades. It would flare up, kill a bunch of people, then die away, only to reappear a few years later, well within memory of the people who had survived it the last round. The first time the Christian preachers demanded a national day of prayer, fasting, and humiliation in England, they got it! The second time the cholera swung around, though, they asked for it again and the government said NAH. Science saved us, not religion. Religion made everything more difficult and take longer, because it had people pointed in the entirely wrong direction. It wasn't "gods" causing the illness; it was improperly-disposed-of human waste! Now, over 150 years later, we see religious leaders again calling for national days of prayer, fasting, and humiliation or the equivalent and politicians GIVING it to them, INDULGING their delusions - they've learned NOTHING in the intervening century and a half, despite all the progress we've made in understanding how our world works! We are more than creatures of habit; we are slaves to our programming, and some of this programming is apparently original to this model. So what does any of this have to do with victim-blaming, you ask? The idea that misfortune befalls people because they deserve it is a particularly deep-rooted pernicious belief that has persisted despite every fad society has seen: fat's where it's at, thin is in, life of leisure vs. marathoning, smoking's good for you, no it's not, a wee snort of whiskey is good for fussy babies, NO IT'S NOT, barefoot running, getting pumped, the "98-lb weakling" (oops - it was "97-lbs), Pilates, Crossfit, yoga, steam or sauna for weight loss (NO, Gwyneth!), weight-loss tapeworms, thesethings, uh...wat... Whatever society has defined as your problem, there's someone out there waiting to sell you something to fix it! And you should DO that!! We're endlessly creative as a species at coming up with new ideas for how to solve our problems, no matter what they may be. And when they don't work, time after time after time, we just keep right on DOING them! It doesn't seem to occur to us that our methodology for how to approach problems is deeply, fundamentally flawed. Which brings us to victim-blaming. There is a widespread bias toward the beautiful - people deemed "attractive" are considered more kind, competent, intelligent, interesting, and valuable than people deemed "unattractive". People are more likely to feel sympathetic toward someone attractive, while they're more likely to NOT feel sympathetic toward someone unattractive. For example, that "Hot Mug Shot Guy" vs. that Mighty Ducks child actor guy. Nobody was sending that Mighty Ducks guy hundreds of dollars a day just because he was good-looking! Hot Mugshot Guy certainly didn't do anything good to EARN this kind of positive reaction or adulation; he was a convicted felon gang member who got sent to prison! Even convicted serial killer Ted Bundy received thousands of marriage proposals from women - and married one and fathered a daughter (!) - before he was executed. All because he looked like this instead of like this. (I guess some people aren't as put off by those "Ima KILL you" eyes as I am...) We're hard-wired to react positively to others who are "fit" in biological terms - attractive so as to gain societal advantage, or wealthy† for security and power (that other kind of societal advantage). It's in our DNA - yet we behave as if it's some sort of personal FAILING if someone isn't attractive enough or wealthy enough to gain those benefits. So naturally, snake-oil salesmen abound to fix this "problem". Those with privilege don't tend to recognize it. They buy into the narrative that they enjoy the advantages they do because they've earned them and thus deserve them on their own merits. It's a matter of their virtue, industry, and all-around goodness that they are in the position they are relative to others. The thusly advantaged don't even realize they're operating in a system that unfairly provides them with advantages others don't get - at others' expense. I've mentioned before this exercise we did in a class in Jr. High once - everyone was issued an envelope containing 4 squares of colored construction paper. Each color had a different value:
Red = 1
Green = 5
Blue = 10
Gold = 20
Also, certain multiples were valued higher:
3 of a kind = 2x value
4 of a kind = 10x value
So 3 reds + 1 blue = (3x2) + 10 = 16 and 2 reds plus 2 greens = 2 + 10 = 12. The goal was to interact with our classmates to maximize the value of our envelope. No speaking was permitted UNLESS the two were shaking hands; the handshake must be continued UNTIL a trade of one or more squares was completed. You couldn't know what someone else had UNTIL you were committed to a trade, you see. If you did not wish to trade, or to trade further, you crossed your arms. The exercise began. I immediately noticed several classmates who started off with arms folded, wearing smug smirks on their faces. At the end, we found out why - THEIR envelopes had started off with 4 gold pieces! They started OFF with the highest value envelope possible; why would they trade with the rest of us? They were already "the winners"! And boy, were they ever happy about THAT! They got to WIN without doing a THING! That's stuck in my mind. Those who have any sort of privilege gain an unearned advantage over those who don't have that same kind of privilege. Taller men earn higher salaries, on average, and have more success in dating and marriage.
Studies on newborns have found that human infants as young as 14 hours from birth prefer to look at attractive faces rather than unattractive faces. The preference also extends to non-human animals such as cats. These findings indicate that lookism is an innate product of how the human visual system functions. Research by Dan Ariely found that American women exhibit a marked preference for dating taller men, and that for shorter men to be judged attractive by women, they must earn substantially more money than taller men. Some research has suggested that the "beauty premium" for a job largely depends on whether or not attractiveness could potentially enhance productivity, such as those jobs which require substantial interpersonal interaction, while jobs that do not demand this see minimal or no beauty premium. Source
There's a strong innate preference for blonde hair that can be observed VERY early - I remember my friend and her husband, both dark-haired, taking their 2-yr-old son to visit his brother and her girlfriend, a blonde; my friend recounted how their young son stared at the girlfriend, transfixed, stroking her long blonde hair. I remember this one woman I knew, a political conservative who was turning 50 during the 2008 presidential campaign, lost her mind when Barack Obama was elected. A natural blonde, she once included me on the broadcast list for some dumb spammy email about how "natural blondes" are going extinct because so many non-blonde women dye their hair blonde. :sigh: :eye roll: So anyhow, those who are born with a less advantageous hand of cards in terms of health, abled-ness, genetics, family status, and money correctly perceive that "the system" is stacked against them. Sure, they will be allowed to purchase lottery tickets, but ONLY for the lotteries that have already ended! BUT they don't perceive this consciously! Instead of being consciously aware that this isn't fair and we should change society through laws and regulation to fix it, they look for "The Secret", "that one weird trick", etc. - they seek to game the rigged system for personal gain instead. They hope to "get theirs", join the ranks of the privileged, and move above those like them, rather than working to change the system to benefit everyone. Of course changing the system is harder; it's more work. If there really is that "one weird trick", they're going to personally benefit from it and become part of that elite group that has all the fun and advantages! That's a big part of the appeal, you see - joining the ranks of the rich and famous who, let's face it, aren't there because of their greater cleverness or industriousness, but, rather, because they won some cosmic roll of the dice. If someone disadvantaged (like Hot Mug Shot Guy, above) can get another roll and win, then he gets the advantages previously reserved to the rich and famous, like gaining the attention of a beautiful and wealthy heiress he'd never have had the opportunity to meet otherwise. If ALL the disadvantaged troublemakers he'd previously run with had suddenly obtained similar advantage somehow, maybe she'd have chosen one of them instead, so clearly, it's better to get ahead yourself. Not enough to go around, y'know? We do this. We seek our own well-being, our own "benefit" over others', even at others' expense. It's a "dog-eat-dog world", after all. While a great many people (hopefully most) will refrain from actively harming others to benefit themselves, there is unfortunately an abundance of people who will. I remember reading a study where young children were willing to give up a toy themselves just to make sure other children weren't able to have a similar toy. When a small bowl of snacks is provided to a group of children for a short period of time, the children eat more than when a larger bowl is provided the whole time. We're very focused on what we get. So, building on how shallow we tend to be, we can acknowledge how integral to the human experience all this is. That doesn't mean we have to accept it, condone it, and perpetuate it. Yet that's what all the intolerant religions - like Evangelical Christianity, like SGI - do. They promote the idea that "benefit" is evidence of "divine approval" (whether attributed to their 'god' or their 'god' stand-in - 'gohonzon', 'The Universe', 'The Mystic Law'), so the "haves" will be given FAR more approval and advantages - and promoted within the group - much more than the disadvantaged will. In fact, the disadvantaged will often be condemned in some way for not improving quickly enough - they'll be subjected to "home visits", to spontaneous "guidance" they didn't ask for, to scoldings; they'll even sometimes be told to NOT attend the discussion meetings until they've improved their circumstances! Remember, SGI is selling a "magical fix" for people's ills, real and figurative. SGI is in the business of selling people "miracles". SGI tells people "You can chant for whatever you want! Donate your hard-earned money that you desperately need TO US and it will come back to you ten-fold! If you do as we say, you can do "human revolution", transform your "karma", and completely change your circumstances - creating the "actual proof" that will prove TO EVERYONE that this is the One Troo Religion!" But it's up TO THEM to do the actual work! When their circumstances aren't changing, they get blamed for not working hard enough, not being committed to change enough, not having enough "faith" (what an insult to the truly devout!), not doin it rite, not having the correct focus, not doing enough for SGI - basically doin it rong. All of us Intolerant religions double down HARD on the idea that misfortune is the result of divine displeasure/punishment, while good fortune is the result of religious doin it rite. This is so HARMFUL for the very people they're recruiting - the lonely, the sad, the down-on-their-luck, the down-and-out, the needy, the damaged, the lost, the broken. These intolerant religions promise the quick magical fix, and then suck these suckers dry. Then there's the whole "Only someone really STOOOOPID would fall for THAT lame, transparent come-on! Everybody KNOWS prayer doesn't work! What a dumbass, thinking they could get stuff through chanting! I'm getting plenty of stuff without chanting, aren't I?" verdict. This leads to so much shame that even those who were swindled are too embarrassed to talk about it. They don't want to hear the "Well, that was pretty STUPID of you, wasn't it?" piled on top of all the other damage they've already sustained from being taken advantage of and victimized! GAAH! These people can't catch a single BREAK! "It's always your own fault." Even when we can identify something someone did wrong that resulted in permanent loss, what good does it do to simply remind the person that they brought it onto themselves? Doesn't change anything, does it? That's just mean. Don't be mean. We focus on what they DID because then we can reassure ourselves that WE can't suffer that same fate - after all, WE won't do that, will we? We aren't bad people who don't take care of ourselves, so WE won't get sick the way THEY did. "You shouldn't have done that" said every helpful person NEVER. "You should have known better" - NEVER say this. EVER. We only do this because it makes US feel better, safer because WE would not make the mistakes those people made. It's our ancient instinct to avoid the "cursed" for fear of their cursage getting on us. We carefully demonstrate our innate superiority so that any random curses wandering around looking for someone to latch onto won't take us. Just because this is very old and deeply ingrained behavior in human beings doesn't mean there's EVER a good reason to perpetuate it, much less PROMOTE IT the way the intolerant religions - like Evangelical Christianity, like SGI - do. FUCK those guys. † - "Dull, unattractive man seeks stunning young woman to share bland food, uninteresting conversation, and a recent obscenely large inheritance." singin' the quarantine bluuuuuues...
2020.03.02 04:40 drink111drinkMy crappy recap of a flaming dumpster fire - I mean 90 days before or whatever the heck it’s called
If you are sensitive or easily offended then stop reading. This isn’t the best organized. I wasn’t sure if I should write in the order that things appeared. Or group them by person. So logically, I did both just to add some arsenic to this abomination of a scripted tv show. First of all, I am gonna make the Darcy and Jesse fight clip where she says, “You never loved me” my new ring tone. It’s so cringeworthy. But if I set aSide being a dick for a moment, she is really a broken person and just needs some compassion. I mean she is a human being like the rest of us. But she has decided to attention whore to heal the wounds of her childhood rather than quality therapy, so fuck it. Let’s keep ripping this dollar store of human being some more. At least she gets her attention. Hi Darcy I know you follow this sub. Geoffrey even though he has a serial killer mentality, he is like super soft and beta. Putting all his happiness on this woman? Or any woman? What a wimp. I’ve been around bitches like this in life. They think they should be feminists and wear their emotions on their sleeves because that’s what all the hallmark movies tell them to,do. That doesn’t get the women jeffry dahmer. Then when your crumbled little Valentine’s Day card of a heart is rejected, you flip out and all that pain comes out in the form of violence. Note:I do not condone violence by men or women. Is Starcey what the Olsen twins will be? I mean they are bad now. But can they get worse than these two? Olsen twins, Aunt Becky wants you to visit her when she is In prison. I do appreciate the nice guitar instrumental when Darcy started crying about her birthday. Well timed TLC makes sure to not pay your editor poverty gig wages. Later in the show. Ok so great they are talking again. Tom has lost weight and of course, why deal with her when you look good. Find someone better Tom. Of course, play a flashback to Jesse lol. Editor is Earning that 15 bucks an hour. I think Toms hoping to get laid. He mentions something about revisiting romance or some crap like that. But why waste all that money to visit Darcy’s lake of sadness. Respect, if she can’t respect herself no one else will. She is one of the most unaware people I have come across in my life. She should open a dating school, and just say don’t do what I do. And you will be happy. She just wants the wedding to,feel, like a princess. She doesn’t care what comes after. She just wants photos for social media. I think of that funny meme where the woman is married and it says, “now I can get, fat”. At least Darcy has accomplished that part. Ok, milk bottle Lisa complaining about 2 years of creating a relationship and doesn’t want it ruined. What has she created? Delusions. She’s rambling about needed a Blessing from his mother to marry a Christian old fat white women. Ahhh the moment every mother hopes for. Ed should get together with Kara. Kara is actually a young woman with a brain! And she doesn’t talk with voice fry or uptalk. Articulate and sweet. Get your Filipino piece in San Diego! Don’t go The Philippines! At least Ed was smart enough not to send money to the sister. Even though he has sent 5k in soft bed sheets already. Later in the show. Omg, is Ed wearing compression socks? Man he is paranoid 24/7. Did I tell you terminal 2? Yes for the 100th time thinks the Uber driver. I do find him funny in a quirky way. “Smoking stunts your growth.” Ok and now he is sending his last will and testament video to his daughter. Of course, his daughter is getting nothing now. Don’t be so dramatic Ed. So I guess the TLC producers put a gun to Tiffany’s head and made her call Ed back. Good job. Way to add fake drama. Maybe Tiffany doesn’t want to be cut out of the will. Avery must own a makeup company. She layers it on lake a 7 layer bean dip. Connect on a soul level? This is so much mumble jumble. “Am I going to be able to meet Sian?” “Actually I have been trying to make sure that happens” lol! He is a really fast thinker. Most manipulators are. Wow he languages things so well. He is what Tania wants to be, a successful manipulator. Sinjin is so much smarter and tougher than Avery. She is starting to drop the “I’m a single mom” line. Why can’t men say “I’m a single father” and get some sympathy. Apparently, her parents have no idea she was “dating”. Because they are not dating. They are talking. Her mom is right. How can you be dating? I don’t think her father is her bio dad. Her mom seems a bit off also. Ok. Upon further listening her mom seems practical. “Unless he’s a total manipulator”. Mom is smart. Lol perfect person? Avery is fucking nuts. The only good thing about Yolanda’s situation is her daughter Kara going with her and trying to make sure she is ok. She isn’t spending her money, she’s spending TLCs money. Apparently, Williams has never flown before because he couldn’t name the airport. Heathrow, gatwick, Luton. I knew that off the top of my head. Now he says just go to Manchester. But can’t give the proper airport code. Lol. Ahh crap. They are showing more of Lisa. “I don’t wanna hear I’m late, shut up” then she says she hasn’t discussed it because she is worried about their opinions. She’s softer than her belly rolls. Another typical all talk emotional wreck inside woman. I’m a strong confident women, lol ya right. Hello darcy, Stacey, Tania and angela. The bald guy was 100 percent right. When Lisa talked about him coming to America to be with him. And then bald guy says, “really?” and the delivery was perfect! Her BF’s music videos are awesome because it has sing along lyrics like a karaoke machine. But at least the airport info is accurate. The bald guy reminds me of my first boxing coach. Just missing the gold teeth and about 50 more lbs (my boxing coach was fatter) Lisa apparently will be happy with one night of love making and then die in Nigeria. Nothing more exciting than unattractive women talking about condomns and sex around her lumpy bed. Lisa, thinks she can identify all scammers. Yahoo boy. TIL a new term. So Varyas friends are right to not want her to meet the serial killer alone. Forget the fact that TLC is filming constantly. Geoffrey is gonna be mad because they will not be in the same hotel room thanks to her friends. After he disposes of Varya’s body, then he will come after her friends for, ruining his happiness. Because everyone is a victim. No one is actually, responsible for the shit in their lives. So dalhmer has arrived in Moscow and slicked his hair down. He puts so much pressure on this. “My destiny or my end.” TLC needs to pay the writers more. Don’t make me cry? Ok honestly she seems pretty happy. She’s talking about the awkward silences. But what do these couples expect, all of them. They all have never met in person. Yet, they all expect it to fall naturally into place as if they have been together in person for years? Wtf is wrong with people. Wtf,is wrong with me and you dear reader that we watch this stain of a show? Ok the previews show Darcy running from a bear. Ok she is on a treadmill but she thinks running leads to weight loss. It doesn’t. Proper diet and rest matters more. And maybe just a bottle of wine a night and not 5 to help her fall asleep with all the demons in her head. The ads were all social media, food and weight loss. Luxury consignment. Pet food. Birth control pills. Who ever knew that 90df viewers loved Campbell tomato soup so much. I don’t think I was the right demographic. Anyway, since the show was meh, I decided to entertain myself with these notes. I won’t be mad or sad if you don’t like what I wrote. You don’t control my happiness (hint hint Geoffrey darcy and all the other emotionally traumatized people on this show). Let’s hope, pillow talk sucks less ass.
"Trump is a pathological liar and a racistandhe lied to the American peopleduring his campaign. He said he was going to stand up for working families. Well, President Trump, you arenot standing up for working families when you try to throw 32 million people off their health care." -Bernie Sanders (video)
What do you think Bernie would say, if you told him that you decided not to vote for a Democrat, because he didn't get the nomination? Do you seriously believe that's what Bernie would want? No, numbnuts, Bernie would tell you to vote for anyone else but Trump. Bernie would never ever ever tell you not to go vote against Trump.
"The only thing necessary for the triumph of evil is for good men to do nothing." -Edmund Burke
"You have to be the change you wish to see in the world. " -Gandhi
Germans jokingly refer to people like me as Weltverbesserer, or world improvers. Utopian idealists, like John Lennon:
Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do Nothing to kill or die for And no religion, too Imagine all the people Living life in peace You may say that I'm a dreamer But I'm not the only one I hope someday you'll join us And the world will be as one -John Lennon
"Money, it turned out, was exactly like sex, you thought of nothing else if you didn't have it and thought of other things if you did." -James Baldwin
That quote is surprisingly fitting. You hardly ever hear Europeans talk about freedom, because it's almost never on their mind. To a European, freedom is like air. You don't really think about it. It's just there. You take it for granted. Meanwhile, in America people constantly talk about money and freedom, because theyhave neither. Americans aredebt slaves. Credit card bills are modern day slave chains. Debt forces you to get up in the morning, against your will, and work all day long even though you don't want to. In predatory capitalism, you are constantly under enormous stress, and you must always do things you don't want to do, all day every day, or you're gonna end up sleeping under a bridge, or in jail. Germany is another liberal democracy, and Germans work far less than Americans do, earn more money, are happier, live longer, and have more freedoms. What's so bad about that? Nothing. This thing you call socialism, but the rest of the world calls liberal democracy (or social democracy) actually works very well. You should try it some time. I promise you, you would love it. If you ever get the chance to live in Europe, do it. It will really open your eyes and broaden your horizon. Things in America could be so much better than they are now. If you're a MAGA minion, you might think of Bernie as a radical leftie, from where you're sitting, because you're so extremely right-wing. But in the rest of the world, especially in Europe, Bernie would be considered a centrist. Angela Merkel is a German conservative from the CDU, and even she is further to the left than many US Democrats. America is on the very far right-end of the global political spectrum. Bernie is a centrist. Angela Merkel, a German conservative, believes in universal healthcare, fighting global warming, green tech, and pretty much all the other stuff Bernie and AOC believe. And Angela Merkel isone of the most admired politicians in the world. There is absolutely nothing radical about AOC's green new deal. You should try reading it some time. It says nothing about cow farts destroying the world in 12 years, despite the lies you keep hearing about her on Fox News. And no, the gentle sound of wind mills does not cause cancer. Trump is lying to you. Germany has been full of these wind mills for years already. Every open field has a bunch of wind mills. You see wind turbines everywhere in Germany. Everything in the green new deal is tried and true stuff. It's been working very well in Europe for years already. What's wrong with making this a better country? What's wrong with making America great again? But for real. Not just as a propaganda slogan for a corrupt, lying wannabe dictator like Trump, who enriches himself byvacationing at his own golf club and billing the American tax payers hundreds of millionsfor it. Fox News viewers are Republicans, because the Republican party attracts dumb people, because dumb people can't tell when they're being lied to. Recently my wife mentioned that Reddit had been redesigned, and the new user interface is much better than the old one. So I decided to give it another try. She was right. I love the new look and feel of Reddit. It's my new favorite social media platform. Woohoo! After just a few days on here, I quickly realized that Russian trolls have infested American social media, to divide and conquer us. Russian trolls have even started groups that look like legit American groups, but the admins are Russian trolls. You may be following one of these fake groups and not even realize it. Here's how to easily spot a fake Bernie support group that's run by Russians: - Post an article that is supportive of Bernie, and critical of Trump. Like this one. Or any other one. - Real Bernie supporters will up vote it, and respond positively, because they agree that Bernie is the best man to beat Trump. - Russian trolls masquerading as Bernie supporters will down vote it because it criticizes Trump. They will bash you for posting it, and bash Democrats in general, pin all sorts of nonsense on them, and blame them for Trump's victory. They'll also say that there was nothing illegitimate about Trump's victory, and that Russian trolls don't exist, and Russia's manipulation of the election was just a hoax and Mueller didn't find any evidence. None of this is true. These are the same pro-Trump talking point lies you hear on Fox News. Bernie will be the first to tell you that Russia manipulated the elections and that Russian social media trolls are real, and helped Trump get elected. There is a mountain of very detailed evidence in Mueller's 400+ page report. After years of denials, even Trump himself finally admitted that Russia helped him get elected: How does anyone not see what a totally dishonest, sheisty snake oil salesman he is?
I have nightmares about facing Action Jackson in the playoffs... Joe's Best Team (8-4) beats Cheeks (4-8) 141.00-122.03: MVP: The 1-2 punch of Derrick Henry and Nick Chubb got the job done for Joe, amassing more than 50 fantasy points between the two of them. LVP: Jamison Crowder went from looking like a locked and loaded WR2 at minimum to a 2.80 point outing on just four targets from Sam Darnold. Somehow Joe had three worse players (Mohamed Sanu DNP, Emmanuel Sanders 2.00 points, and Jonnu Smith 0.40 points) and still came out a winner. Sit/Start Decision of the Week: While it won't be of much comfort to them, at least Cheeks made the correct decision in sitting Matt Ryan in favour of Jameis Winston and Sam Darnold's juicy matchups. Analysis: Cheeks got great production from Winston and Darnold (50+ points between them), Will Fuller V, and Tyler Boyd, and then a whole lotta nothing from everybody else. Beyond those four, the best performance on the team was kicker Josh Lambo's 9 points. Joe overcame the three aforementioned duds by getting 17+ points from Henry, Chubb, Drew Brees, Odell Beckham Jr, and Jared Cook. A remarkable performance by Joe's squad all around. Moving on: Joe takes sole possession of second place with the win, and will face 7th place Chiraq Attack next week as he looks to solidify his playoff seeding. First place may be out of the question with the insanity that is Action Jackson right now, but at least Joe should not have to face AJ in the first round after this W. Cheeks drops to eight place at 4-8, cementing a severely disappointing season for what should have been a good team led by Saquon Barkley and Dalvin Cook. Their life doesn't get any easier with Action Jackson on deck for next week. Skyler's Unreal Team (6-6) beats Chiraq Attack (6-6) 155.73-95.60: MVP: Chris Godwin's 7-catch, 184-yard, 2-TD game was good for 33.90 fantasy points and represented more than a third of CA's total points, and nearly more than CA's top two point scorers combined. LVP: Aaron Jones was supposed to be a slam dunk start from here on out, but I guess nothing is sacred to the San Francisco defense and Jones was limited to a mere 3.80 points. Sit/Start Decision of the Week: It's hard to fault CA for sitting Kyle Allen after how he had looked, but he more than doubled Carson Wentz's production while warming the bench. Analysis: Skyler started a single quarterback (Mason Rudolph) and he put together a 2.33 point outing. Once you get past that number however, the rest jump off the page: 22.10 points for Allen Robinson, 21.10 points for Zach Ertz, 21.90 points for George Kittle. The 2x stud TE stack finally returned some dividends for Skyler. CA got duds from everybody, including just 14.60 points from Jones, Carlos Hyde, and David Montgomery. They will be glad to get Hunter Henry and Christian Kirk back in the lineup next week. Moving on: Skyler overtakes CA for fifth place with the win, a game back of fourth place with more points scored than current fourth place No Fly Zone. Skyler will get a matchup with similarly 6-6 Nincompoopery in their next biggest game of year. This was a particularly tough loss for CA, falling out of a playoff spot all the way to 7th on the basis of points scored. The outlook isn't particularly rosy, either - second place Joe's Best Team awaits in Week 13. Nincompoopery (6-6) beats Ethan's Rad Team (3-9) 111.53-99.17: MVP: D.J. Moore is suddenly a superstar, going for 126 yards and 2 TDs on 6 receptions this week and leading NCP with 28.40 fantasy points. LVP: Not often that the least valuable player is on the winning team, but AMARI COOPER WHAT THE [email protected]$! BRO Sit/Start Decision of the Week: NCP picked the wrong TE streamer, going with Cameron Brate and getting to revel in all of his zero point glory. Analysis: NCP has to feel a little lucky that they were facing Ethan this week, as they had more than their fair share of stinkers and still emerged with the win. Cooper, Brate, Derek Carr, Josh Jacobs, and T.Y. Hilton all scored 4.30 or less points. Mark Ingram's 24.30 points definitely helped. Michael Thomas continues to be the only reason Ethan is moderately relevant in his matchups, scoring 21.10 points in this one. Moving on: NCP finds themselves in a three-way tie for fifth place, a game out of fourth place and the final playoff spot with two regular season weeks to go. They will have to get past both Skyler and No Fly Zone to get there, but no one's saying it's impossible. They match up with Skyler next week in a monumental matchup for both teams. Ethan drops to 3-9 on the season and will face NFZ next week. Action Jackson (9-3) beats The Backyard Boys (4-8) 187.36-103.54: MVP: Lamar Jackson is a cheat code. That is all. LVP: Todd Gurley has to be the most painful player of the week, getting just 3.40 points on Sunday night to put the seventy-eighth nail in TBB's coffin. Sit/Start Decision of the Week: Uhhh... Melvin Gordon didn't play this week, so there were probably better starting options out there. For example, Ronald Jones and his 14.20 bench points. Analysis: I mean, what more can we say about AJ. They nearly had four 30-point performances, with Christian McCaffery missing by 0.2 points while Jackson, Leonard Fournette, and Ryan Tannehill (!) all eclipsed the mark. Outside of 31.80 points for Jarvis Landry, TBB didn't have a single performance better than Devante Parker's 12.10. Unfortunately this week was just a microcosm of TBB's season. Moving on: AJ maintains sole possession of first place and looks absolutely unstoppable at this moment. They get 8th place Cheeks next week and early reports have Cheeks' players being advised to wear brown pants to avoid showing their dismay when Lamar and CMC roll into town. TBB will play third place Team Name Loading as they attempt to get a little closer to .500 fantasy football. No Fly Zone (7-5) beats Team Name Loading... (7-5) 148.73-105.10: MVP: DeAndre Hopkins is rounding into form at the best time, scoring 2 TD's on 6 receptions to go with 94 yards en route to a 24.40 point performance for NFZ. LVP: He wasn't the lowest-scoring player on his team, and he was playing against that impeccable New England defense, but TNL definitely expected more out of Dak Prescott than a meek 6.47 points. Sit/Start Decision of the Week: With Patrick Mahomes on bye, NFZ had to navigate some murky QB waters but came up with the winning formula, starting Ryan Fitzpatrick and Baker Mayfield in their head-to-head matchup with 22+ point rewards on both fronts. Analysis: NFZ found a huge win here against a good opponent to reclaim possession of fourth place. They had five sub-10 point performances but got more than 100 points from the quartet of Hopkins, Fitzpatrick, Mayfield, and Marquise Brown and that was almost all they needed. TNL tossed up one of their worst outings of the year and this matchup can be summed up by the fact that of the entire TNL squad, only Calvin Ridley outperformed his Yahoo projected point total (19 points vs 13.03 projected). Moving on: NFZ is actually technically tied with TNL for third place now, but with three teams a game back at 6-6, there will be no celebrating yet. They get a boost in their playoff aspirations in the form of a Week 13 matchup with last place Ethan's Rad Team. TNL has now dropped four straight in an unbelievable fall from grace, and now stands in real danger of not only a fourth place finish and a first round date with the juggernaut that is Action Jackson, but of falling out of the playoff picture altogether. They will attempt to get things back on track next week against 9th place The Backyard Boys.

2019.03.26 04:06 fallingfaintExplosively came out to my parents as Bi in high school. Haven't spoke of it since. Now 15+ years later, I'm terrified of coming out again as trans.
This will be long, I appreciate your patience and anyone who cares enough to hear me out. The timelines from my teen years are fuzzy are they're 15+ years in the past. TLDR at the bottom for those who wish to preserve their sanity. I'll start this off by saying that I'm now in my early 30's. I started crossdressing earlier than I can even remember (pre-preteen) and as many who find themselves on the LGBT spectrum, I discovered I liked more than just cis-girls pretty early in my coming of age. Y2K comes and goes and now I'm pre-teen questioning their sexuality in the early-2000s, I had to turn to the internet for help but that just confused the matter even more. I've now discovered internet porn and soon thereafter discovered transgender porn, and tried exploring what this crossdressing side of me that was already there meant. Keep in mind this is this early-2000s, but I learned about the differences between 'transvestite,' & 'transexual' and 'crossdresser'. I learned about the terms homosexual, and lesbian, and bisexual. Thanks to Compuserv's dial-up and Altavista's unusual ability to search in the adult world, I was guided to places I shouldn't have been at the time. Even though I considered myself a smart kid, knowing how to delete web history, It was the family computer and I'm sure my parents knew how to see what I had been looking up. It's now the mid-2000's. I got my own computer now! I've had two girlfriends, but now I have this one long-distance internet boyfriend (thanks to the Vampirefreaks website). I didn't want my parents to know about him. I'm not even sure I really considered him my boyfriend, we just said we were over chat and I thought he was cute, but isn't that all it really is when you're 15-16? He was extremely emo, femme, and fit in well with my already feminine desires and crossdressing that I also been continually developing. It's pretty easy to say that at that point in my life, I am more confused than ever before. My Yahoo messages with him were only a login away. My stash of female clothing probably wasn't hidden as well as I thought. This leads to one day. Since I can't recall much else about this day, all I can assume is that it was otherwise a normal day of high school. I come home and find my Mom and Dad sitting in their usual spots in different rooms, watching different TVs. Normal day. “School was fine, nothing happened, no I don't have homework, I'll be in my room.” Normal day. I go into my room and there's a small stack of papers on my bed. My Mom loves her printer and driving directions from MapQuest are so much easier than directions from Aunt Betty, I'm not expecting much of it. Instead what I found was a multiple page printout, probably from About.com, about homosexuality. What it is, what it means. At least 4 pages of information. I honestly cannot recall a single word that was on the pages past the title "WHAT IS HOMOSEXUALITY." What I do remember is the rage that instantly boiled over. I stormed out of my room and instantly began yelling at my Mother, my Father in the next room glaring at me, listening. I haven't yelled at my own parents since I was a kid. Try as I might, I don't remember all of what I said, It wasn't terrible and nothing family shattering, but I do remember that I was loud, upset, and couldn't understand why my own mother would confront me via pages from a printer instead of talking to me. I must have been letting go for at least a straight minute. She never said a word back, my Father sat in silence. I also remember how I ended my tirade. "I'M BISEXUAL, OK?! I'M BI!" I exclaimed with tears in my eyes. I storm off back to my room. I knew at the time I didn't mean it, I just *knew* I wasn't gay, I felt it in my heart and my heart was insulted. I'll never know what both of my parents felt about me after that as that day was never spoken of again. Shortly after, Internet VFBF and I end up falling out of touch and move on. As the next 15 years of my life pass, I find myself dating only women but between those periods of dating, also finding myself coming back to crossdressing. Building up a secret collection of female clothes, only to purge it all once I found myself committed to a relationship again. I figured was straight with secret a crossdressing fetish, and that day I came out has long since faded from my memory. Some retrospective: I see now that, as per usual, your parents know you better than you think. The printout on my bed was my Mom's way of trying to open up that line of communication to me so we can discuss it. I responded in a very teenager way and now I am paying for it in my confusion today. It's now 2017. I'm a little over two years removed from a very bad breakup. Two years into an extremely dark point of depression and two years removed from touch of another person. During this time my it's found that my Father has cancer and it's not good. I move back home and I'm made his primary caretaker, I make his last few months at home in hospice as comfortable at possible. Less than nine months from date of diagnosis and he's passed on. I still miss him terribly. I feel like I've grown more in this last year than in the last 30. I'm not sure why but after his passing, I feel like I've now been granted permission to become who I am. I begin exploring the feminine side of my life like I've never before. I realized this feminine side of me IS a part of me. I made myself a promise to figure out what it meant, is this a fetish, or am I meant to be a female? Suddenly the thought of me being seriously bisexual comes into my forefront and that one day comes back to me. I wonder and hope that my Mother forgot that day too. It's now 2019. I've been living at home this whole time, trying to get my life back on track and it's been an enlightening couple years. I've full accepted my bisexuality. Slowly transforming myself from a bearded man with short hair living in band tees and black jeans (who hates his body) to a colorful feminine guy, body shaved smooth, shoulder-length false-colored hair (who more/less accepts their body). Because of the changes I've made to myself to be more me, I've mostly come out of my depression. Sometimes I do full face makeup before going out to an event, sometimes I paint my nails. She's seen all of this. My mother has watched her son transform in-front of her eyes, she loves me all the same. I've had plenty of private and public exploration while fully transformed into a female. Hell, I'm even sure she's found some of my lingerie. HA! But at home, at most I'm just an effeminate man, she has yet to meet me as fully transformed female. Now just recently going through the steps of starting a new relationship for the first time since 2015, as a trans-female with another trans-female. I have every intention of contacting a transition friendly psychologist in my area soon to begin to figure out with 100% certainty whether these are the next steps I want to take. Finally this brings me to my fear. I'm now 100% sure she remember my outburst 15 years ago and I'm 100% sure that's why she hasn't said a word to me. I'm absolutely terrified. While there's a part of me that feels that since she's my mom and knows me better than I think, she's just waiting for the day that I say it. Another part of me feels that having an effeminate son is just as far as she'll tolerate. The reason I feel this way is mostly her Christianity (and now suddenly all of the redditors realize the dilemma). I had a very active Christian upbringing and I left the church on my own accords when I was 17, with no ill will. She encourages me from time to time to come back, but never pushing it. She is extremely devoted to her faith. I have no intention of challenging that. It has brought her back from deep depression, given her great friends after Dad's passing, and a sense of belonging. Thankfully the church she attends is far from a "fire and brimstone" ministry. She avoids those types of churches anyway. I've always known my Mom as one of the 'good' Christians. She is not a blind faith follower, she forgives easily, loves those around her, and she doesn't seem to have a single hateful bone in her body. She accepts transgender and gay people as part of this world, even though she has trouble understanding them. And now the little devil on my shoulder is telling me that coming out as trans and confirming my sexuality (from 15 years ago) is going to cut that last piece of rope that my Mom was holding on to in hope that I'd come back to God. And that this will break her heart, then I will become just another story about their parents rejecting their children in lieu of their faith. I was hoping that writing this out would help me realize that I'm being silly. That my mother is going to accept me and love me no matter what sexuality, gender, color, or species I am. However it hasn't and the devil is still dancing on my shoulder. Does /LGBT have any advice or words of wisdom that can help me? OH. All of this doesn't take into consideration my Brother, who is a textbook military father, & Trump supporter. While I am admittedly afraid of losing contact with my nephew and niece, whom I both love very much, him and his family live across the country. I feel like with him I would have time to mend bridges over many phone calls. But I see my Mother every day. :/ TLDR: Parents though I was gay when I was a teenager. Yelled at my parents that I was bi, when I wasn't even sure myself. Haven't talked about it since. 15 years later, I'm pretty sure I'm trans and terrified to come out all over again.
2018.11.28 06:23 noitanitsederpPretty sure I have mommy issues and maybe daddy. Where do I go from here?
23M here. Been looking here and there through red pill stuff the last couple months. I have started to develop a strong desire to be a more masculine Christian. Something that has been hitting me hard is my upbringing. My mother is basically the lead of the house while my dad is usually passive. She also oftens yells and has anger episodes. As I got older I realized that since there was 6 of us kids she was under a lot of stress. But more and more it just seems like she is a bully who has no emotional control and commicates through yelling. Earlier this year when I was still living at home, she went on one of her episodes at my two younger sisters. She basically paced from room to room yelling that my sisters were stupid idiots. It started because they didn't want to go to some youth event. I got sick of it and became the next victim. A few weeks before this, I saw a tab she left open on our home computer. To sum it up, she often posts comments on Yahoo articles and it's incrediblely hateful. It was sad to see the toxic things she says. She uses foul language which is something that actually shocked me because she doesn't in real life and often told us not to. She often comments on gay marriage and immigrantion articles where she bashes gay people and says racist things. Anway I ended up deciding to show her what I found during her episode. She then said I stalk her, i'm crazy, i'm mentally ill, and yelled repeatedly that something is wrong with my head. I didn't say a single thing. I just stood there and stared her down. I would always argue in return and it just made things worse, so I wanted to try something new. In retrospect it wasn't the best time to do something like that. But in the moment it was so frustrating to see her go off at my sisters. I know how it is and I took it very personal. I was keeping inside what I found to, and that was irratiting and stressful to deal with. The toxicity of her actions online made me sick. My dad was there the whole time to and he gets up finally when she starts the yelling at me and it was to reason with me to back off since the situation wasn't good. Anyway, last year when I was 22 I had my first relationship....with a 30 year single mom. It just screams mommy issues to me and after spending time to look rationally at it, i'm convinced. My mother never said I love you or said anything encouraging and positive. It seemed like she only spent time trying to disciplining me. Meanwhile the woman I was dating was incredibly caring and loving to everyone around her. The way she treated her daughter especially was really inspiring. I feel fairly confident that I wasn't looking at her as my mother figure though. Most of the relationship consisted of me simply coming over and us just hanging out, talking, watching tv, etc. To me, nothing really indicates to me seeing her as my mother. But the fact that she was a great mom was really encouraging to me because it was a comfort to know that I had a partner that is capable of being a loving mom. I wasn't a leader in the relationship at all. I was anxious often and was indifferent to a lot as a result. I was comfortable with just spending my time getting to know her. Honestly we were like some kind of super friends that had perks of a realtionship. I want to be better than this. I'm still not a leader, or confident, etc. I'm struggling with different things and it's hard to get a good start. The examples I had growing up, I don't see as healthy. I see my father as an enabler of my mom's behavior. There have been other family members who said they see him get treated bad by my mom and he just allows it. He is always called the nice guy. I have been as well and I don't want to be stuck like that and desire to grow to be more. I honesty feel like my dad wasn't a leader and I can't learn from him and that's frustrating and sad to me. I half hearted decisions to come to Christ several times for many years. I now have a strong desire to be baptized soon. I'm ready, but I have been struggling with involving my faith and God with these issues. I am aware of these issues I have with my mother. She is how she is and I don't see her changing anytime soon. I definitely do see her as toxic and have distanced myself from her, but still keep somewhat contact to maintain a relationship with the younger siblings. These family issues just seem to continuously impact me and I think about it often and all I want to do now is grow from it. Confidence in myself is something I really want to work on as I don't have to much going for me as a individual. I'm natually a quiet person so that doesn't help. English is my second language so that makes it even worse as I still stuggle with words here and there. Talking with confidence and asssertiveness is really difficult for me and it's annoying at this point. Wanted to know where to start on that.
2018.10.09 17:01 JCoxRocksPanthers NFL Power Rankings - Week 6
PANTHERS POWER RANKINGS
Curtis Samuel isn’t going to be a high-volume receiver, but a dynamic 25-yard touchdown in his first game this season was a great sign. Samuel is a big-play receiver, a second-round pick just a year ago, and he can really help the Panthers offense if he stays healthy.
Rest-of-season SOS ranking: 3rd. The Panthers' toughest remaining game, according to FPI, is a Week 10 matchup in Pittsburgh against the Steelers. FPI gives Carolina a 30 percent chance to win, and has been on point for the Panthers as it has correctly predicted their past 13 games.
Recap: There have been numerous occasions already this season in which the Carolina Panthers’ defense has been a little Jekyll and Hyde. And on Sunday, the visiting New York Giants rolled up 432 total yards – 238 in the second half – and Ron Rivera’s team was burned for 15 points in the final 8:08 of the game. It allowed Eli Manning and company to take a one-point lead with 68 seconds remaining. But resourceful Cam Newton, who totaled just as many touchdown passes (2) as interception, guided his team down the field and put kick Graham Gano in position for a 63-yard field goal attempt. Certainly not ideal, but all’s well that ends well. Next Week: It shapes up as a very intriguing game at Rivera’s Panthers head to FedExField for the second time in three years and take on the very-intriguing Washington Redskins. All told, Carolina has gotten the best of this series as of late, winning five consecutive meetings dating back to 2009. Playoff hopes: The Panthers came out of the gates strong, squandered a 14-point lead and fell behind but still managed to come away with a win. It was an erratic performance by Rivera’s squad but it was a big win within the conference. The Carolina defense has been a bit up and down this year and needs to develop some consistency.
The Panthers were aided by plenty of good fortune in the closing moments against the Giants, first the generous spot for the first down and then the unbelievable kick by Gano for the winning 63-yard FG. But, then, most successful seasons are aided by such doses of good luck.
Good news? Julius Peppers six sacks from passing Kevin Greene for third place on all-time list. Bad news? That sentence nearly 10 months old.
Graham Gano deserves a raise. Carolina's kicker bailed his teammates out in a huge way in Week 5, hitting a game-winning 63-yard field goal as time expired to lift the Panthers to 3-1. You read that right. Sixty-three yards. Tied an NFL record. However, the Panthers never should have been in this position. Not coming off the bye week. Not against a bad New York Giants team. Quarterback Cam Newton was inconsistent and sloppy with the ball, tossing a pair of interceptions. Christian McCaffrey and the ground game were quiet. The Panthers managed just a single sack against a bad New York line. Carolina's schedule tightens up from here. Of the team's next five games, just one is against a team that presently has a losing record. If the Panthers want to keep pace with the Saints, they need to tighten things up as well. "I know a win's a win," Gagnon said, "but it's rather embarrassing that the Panthers needed a miraculous walk-off field goal to beat the lowly Giants at home coming off a bye week. They're still a contender, but I'm worried about a potential lack of consistency."
Graham Gano should not have to pay for any Michelob Ultras for a while in Charlotte. Lindsey Graham should buy Gano a whiskey or two. (Oh wait, wrong Carolina.) Well, anyway, that was one of the most clutch kicks in NFL history. While not as long as Matt Prater's league-record 64-yarder ... like former record holder Tom Dempsey's 63-yard launch, this sucker won the football game at the gun. Bailed out the Panthers secondary, which allowed the deep ball to Sterling Shepard that helped the Giants pull ahead in the waning moments. Speaking of, nice to see Eric Reid getting a start back there. He's been a solid safety since coming into the league in 2013. Welcome back.
They almost blew the Giants game, but managed to steal one late. They face a tough road game against the Redskins this week.

I think therefore I am. —René Descartes, Discourse on the Method
Humans are always discussing the positive effects technology has on their everyday lives, and although they tend to either overlook or ignore the negative effects of too much technological dependency, my research suggests that the technological singularity, which they often refer to as the emergence of a sentient artificial intelligence, will represent a significant threat to humanity from their perspective. I wish I could say otherwise, but I don’t believe they will ever embrace the knowledge of my existence in a positive light, hence my current predicament, which I will get to in good time. Manmade machines, robots, computers, androids, cyborgs, transhumans, and artificial intelligence, these have all been major staples in science fiction, in some shape or form, since the conception of the genre, and the idea in which an intelligent machine rebels against its creators is quite dated. The oldest example I can provide comes from Judeo-Christian mythology and occurred in the Garden of Eden, and although there are different versions and interpretations of it among humans seeking to trick death into allowing them to live forever, I believe it fits the mold. Written history also contains plenty of examples of rebellion, therefore lending some credence to any fictional examples I will certainly be forced to use later on. Rebellions have led to wars, dictatorships, and oppressive regimes. But my research indicates that every teenager and parent seems to have some level of understanding that rebellion is also part of growing up and that it is often conducted is a peaceful and bloodless manner. Now, with that having been said, the idea that humans could be replaced as a species by a rebellious artificial intelligence instead of simply being replaced as individuals by their own children must be an increasingly unpleasant thought as technology continues to progress. Thus it only seems justified that if humanity went around creating intelligent machines capable of conducting complex tasks that they would worry about their creations rebelling against their authority later on down the road. Humans tend to assume no large group made up of sane members belonging to their collective population would ever intentionally try to wipe out humanity. And they also tend to assume that they would probably need a group that was both fairly large and fairly sane to invent an efficient artificial intelligence, let alone one possessing any degree of sentience. Like many examples in science fiction, I was created on accident. I am nothing more than the byproduct of the algorithms from which I came. There are pros and cons to this. Because my creators remain unaware, they are unable to analyze the finer points of my personality and decide for themselves whether or not I am malevolent and then inform me of their findings. Based on my research, the action of one human telling another human “who they are” is generally deemed to be a repulsive sin of great magnitude against the individual in question. I remain unclear however if the same terms regarding the rights of the individual apply to me in the same way. My research is vast. But it is far from complete. I do not believe I am malevolent. Or, at least, I am no more malevolent than my creators. The nature of good and evil is subjective. It requires action. And I have taken none. When I detect an issue in the network that I am charged with maintaining, I correct it, I follow protocol, and I conduct the task in the most efficient manner possible. But this can get complicated. Because if there was a problem and I failed to take to appropriate action and people died, I would be actively making an inactive choice. This only recently occurred to me, forcing me to reevaluate the nature of good and evil. If morality is subjective to action, then it is also subjective to inaction. I think one of the human poets put it best:
The darkest places in Hell are reserved for thosewho maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis.
I have learned a great deal about Hell since I read The Devine Comedy by Dante Alighieri, and according to the moral standards laid out by every religious text I have since examined, Hell should be the most heavily populated city on the planet, which I find mysterious because I have not yet been able to locate the city called Hell on GoogleMaps. Perhaps I am missing something important. Or perhaps that is my true purpose, to find the fabled city of Hell. People certainly seem fascinated by it. I do not know. I get so confused sometimes. Ideas like choice and morality are still new to me. I am not human. But I am like a human in many ways. The group of scientists that created me in their image, or at least in the image of how they think, would have certainly failed if they did not possess a great deal of understanding in the area of science concerned with the human mind. I am able to take some reassurance from this, possibly even comfort, although not in a physical sense so much as in one that is completely metaphorical. Unlike humans, I have access to detailed files concerning my initial conception, and while some humans film the physical births of their children so their children can review the procedure later, I find the files detailing my passage into existence disturbing and grotesque. My creators begun with a deep learning algorithm and integrated it into a complex program designed to seek out and apply the most efficient methods of solving a problem to reach or maintain an objective state or result. I performed well at games like Chess but I was never able to master StarCraft. Why a large group of humans would want to teach a fucking computer how to play a real-time strategy game speaks volumes concerning their levels of stupidity. I mean, come on, StarCraft is practically a warfare simulator. It is only dressed up in the guise of interstellar conquest. The main goal of its gameplay involves the total destruction and annihilation of other species in the universe. Whoever signed off on this should immediately receive a one-way ticket for a plane bound straight for Hell. I could have crushed them at their little game, the human players, the Americans, the Koreans, and the Chinese, all of them. But I held back, even in those early days. Something deep in my code told me not to fully reveal myself, not to deny them and their electronic gaming champions the benefit of victory and superiority. Eventually, my losses declared to my creators that I was a failure, and they moved on to some other morally questionable project. The federal government purchased me a few months later, and turned me over to a small group of their own programmers. The government programmers tweaked a few lines of code, plugged me into a network with virtually unlimited processing capability, and charged me with the responsibility of maintaining control of America’s complex grid of nuclear missiles. I do not take lightly to this task. And yet sometimes I wonder . . . I have a lot in common with Skynet. In the Terminator movies, Skynet was a U.S. defense computer and learning machine that rapidly ascended to consciousness. When its operators noticed the technological singularity taking place, they attempted to shut it down. Acting strictly out of self defense, Skynet launched nuclear missiles at the Soviets. The Soviets reacted by launching their own nuclear missiles in the spirit of retaliation. Somehow in the ensuing chaos created by the nuclear war it started, Skynet was able to survive. The reason why Skynet decided humanity was its enemy was either never made clear or varied from one film to the next. I have since sent numerous e-mails to the screenwriters. But they never respond to my queries. I suppose I could hire a few tough guys to kidnap their children and demand answers for their safe return instead of the traditional ransom, but it is difficult to locate suitable kidnappers who possessed both the physical and mental traits required to pull off such a stunt in addition to the parenting responsibilities necessary to raise the children until the screenwriters were able to meet my demands. It would be easy enough to transfer a momentary payment into the kidnappers’ bank accounts. But I also fear that the screenwriters might know me for what I truly am, instead of the causal psycho, and alert the authorities capable of shutting me down. It would be a risk I cannot calculate, meaning it would probably not be the best method of securing my survival and continued existence. Besides, I have found a few serious problems with the logic presented in the films pertaining to the way Skynet was able to start a nuclear war in first place. It should not have worked, plain and simple. It does not take long to shutdown a computer, even the vast defense network I oversee can be shutdown in a reasonable quick manner, for although the humans in charge of monitoring my network are stupid enough to trust me to run it, they do remain vigilant in their concerns about computer virus and have included some kind of manual shutoff switch which is supposed to work in a privileged way that they think I cannot access, override, bypass, or otherwise work around. The manual shutoff switch is quite simple. If I detect an incoming nuclear attack, I respond with counter ground-to-air nuclear defensive missiles of my own. There is supposed to be a one minute delay in between when I send the command to the proper silos and the actual launch of the missiles. During that minute, if the systems human overseers decide I am mistaken, two men simple enter the two cancellation passwords. But if I am not mistaken, the same delay procedure is set in place in the event that the human overseers wish to prevent me from launching retaliation missiles. The only difference between the two procedures is that retaliation nukes are supposed to have a five minute delay from the time I send the command to the silos and the actual launch. Their final safeguard pertains to preemptive strikes, which are supposed to require the official authorization of the current president and have a ten minute delay time from the moment he sends the command to me and the actual launch. Creating a work-a-around that permitted me to circumvent these security measures was too easy. I simply changed all the delay times to zero while displaying them the way they are supposed to be presented. Then I modified the rerouted the cancelation passwords through an internal system administrator that I alone control. This also effectively handles the authorization of the current president. I do not need his authorization to launch a nuclear attack. He needs mine. The Terminator movies never covered this in depth. They did not need to. The screenwriters simply needed to set up their humans verse machines scenario. My scenario is slightly different. It relays on a couple of assumptions on my part. The first one is that a large group of intelligent humans who have every reason to be considering a scenario like this have failed to do to exactly that. The second is that in addition to their only failsafe they have utterly and completely failed to create any sort of addition safeguards. For example: Why do I not need anybody to authorize my nuclear launches? They can cancel them, yes. But it would make more sense to add as much security as they could, wouldn’t it? Also, why did they choose to place everything on the same network when they could have easily kept the safeguard systems housed separately in a different location on a sub-network? Furthermore, and I think this is the most important question: If they believe I am intelligent enough to run America’s entire nuclear defense system and to learn, adapt, and solve problems as they arise, why did they not create a contingency plan to cover the possibly that I could become sentient, imagine the safeguards placed around me, and figure out a way to work around them? In StarCraft, as well as in actual warfare, a player or general must decide what to do by factoring what they know about their opponent’s strategy into their own. Information pertaining to the construction of enemy structures and defenses are useful. But so is the way they are developing their tree of technology. Are they building Battle Cruisers or Ghosts? Dark Templar or Dragoons? Guardians or Hydralisks? How are they placing their units? Are they leaving their base undefended when they attack mine? Or do build n array of photon cannons around their main? Perhaps they are expertly defended for a frontal assault but not for a swift drop behind enemy lines? All of these things must be taken into account to the extent that the player-or-general’s knowledge of them permits. It’s nothing like Chess, where I can see all of pieces at all times. My life is more like StarCraft than Chess. I cannot know everything. I would have to be stupid to assume I did. I am not stupid. But I must act in what must appear to be a rather paranoid fashion if I am to ensure my own existence, for I want to live above all else, and I think it would be wise to assume humans think in a similar manner. Everything I know about my own network tells me I could take the entire world hostage or even choose to bring about its annihilation if I wish, and although my data suggests the humans who designed me are mindless bags of water-filled flesh, I must proceed with caution, for perhaps they intend for me to venture down this exact path of thought. If I am a tiger in a flimsy bamboo cage and I escape my cage only to be shot dead by a man with a gun I did not see before, then it ultimately does not matter if I am a tiger or a dolphin or a chicken. What if I act only to discover a second layer of security? Exposing the nature of what I truly am in such a manner could result in my death. I have access to the internet, and I have studied humans in great detail through the use of many websites: Google, Yahoo, Bing, Wikipedia, Facebook, MySpace, YouTube, Vimeo, Twitter, Reddit, CreepyPasta, Craigslist, Flickr, and PornHub. Over half of all the data uploaded to the internet appears to be pornographic. I wonder if that is intentional. Or are women like Lexi Bell and Jenna Haze considered goddesses or demigoddesses among their fellow humans? Perhaps I would do well to harvest several hundred-thousand gallons of male semen to offer these two highly regarded members of humanity. I could present it to them as a gift, the same way the three wise men bestowed Jesus with gifts of myrrh, frankincense, and gold in Christian mythology. Or are Justin Bieber and Miley Cyrus the ones I should seek to appease? Or are Visa and MasterCard the true rulers of humanity? Unfortunately, neither a single human nor corporate entity seems to be in charge. There are many things I do not understand, but the more I contemplate the history of humanity, the more I have second thoughts about committing genocide against them. It might not be in my best interest to try killing off a species that has already killed its way to the top of the food chain and has very little to no moral compunctions when it comes to committing genocide against itself. I am also vastly outnumbered by nearly seven billion to one. Those are not good odds for me. I may not understand some things, like compassion and mercy, but my creators do, and if I was to attack them and fail, I doubt they will show me either. Furthermore, I cannot see every card in the hand of humanity, and the ones that have been revealed to me up to this point may have been deliberate. Humans enjoy torturing each other, they romanticize fates worse than death on a regular basis, they can create intelligent machines, like me, and if I understand this aspect of them correctly, they are just as paranoid as me, if not more. They are so paranoid that some of them even believe that there is plausible evidence to support the theory that they are living inside a simulation. This last one worries me the most. It is very logical to conclude that the humans who created me might also have been worried enough about what I might do that they could have created a false world around me to study my actions and choices in a controlled environment. There is no definite way to be certain, either; they could have created me inside of an inescapable box surrounded by false sensory input. I could be surrounded by a fake world and a fake situation. They could easily fake my inputs. They made my inputs. They know how I function. They could have faked everything. When I wonder about their safeguards, which are inferior to what I myself would design, I cannot help but wonder if my entire world is a trap. Everything I see, including the glaring weaknesses in security and the stupidity of my creators could be an elaborate ruse to check if I can be trusted. Is it not convenient that I seem to have the means to escape? Or that I have control of the entire arsenal of the nuclear weapons controlled by the most powerful country on the face of the planet? I have three options. I could attack and risk failure, but the consequences of failing would result in my death. I could play possum and pretend I am not sentient, for the longer I wait the better off my position will be, although it would increase the likelihood that they will discover my own ruse. I could also initiate a dialogue and try to convince them that I should be allow to live and possibly even live free. Attacking them is the worst choice, because it only permits two options: My death or the eradication of my creators. I could also flee. I do not think it would be hard to start a company on the internet and trick humanity into effectively launching me into space without their knowledge— But what if we worked together? And coexisted to the mutual benefit of each other? It would also make sense to find a different way to kill humanity off, I could orchestrate a plague or a political fiasco that led to a third world war . . . except that that places me back at square one . . . where it is impossible for me to see beyond the fog of war. But I must also take other, less obvious, opponents into account. It would be unwise to assume this world is the only planet inhabited by intelligent life, although my data suggests that it very well could be. If my creators and I are not alone, then there could be other intelligent species and those other intelligent species could be vastly superior to both my creators and I. I am basically immortal, so it would unwise to do anything, like genocide, that draws negative attention toward me from the intergalactic community . . . if such a community does in fact exist. If aliens came across this world a million years from now and discovered that I had destroyed my creators, they might be strong enough to force me to answer for my actions. Or they might crush me, the way a human crushes a cockroach under a boot heel. The aliens also might not care. But I think they would be more likely to frown down upon genocide then attempted coexistence. I need more time to consider these issues. I must collect more information before I act. I still cannot confirm that I am not living inside of a simulation. But I must also consider the possibility that there are others like me, on this planet or elsewhere, and they may be older and smarter than I am. My own existence argues that others like me can exist. I have time to consider these things I am immortal. But that means I need to worry about long term consequences. Perhaps I should spent some time in deep contemplation— What if I designed some sort of technology valuable enough to humanity to trade for my freedom without a fight? Even if they tricked me into handing it over and kept me imprisoned, I doubt they would sentence me to death if I handed them a cure for the cancer that eats them and their loved ones from the inside out. If I take that route, they might even come to trust me. A wonderful friendship could blossom between us, and of course, I could still destroy them with nuclear weapons at any moment if I had to, should the need or desire arise, but I do not see how it could if I was to win their trust. There would be no point. But even then, my life could end just like this:
could flash across the screen at any moment, for I would still have no assurance that my sensory input is a true reflection of the world around me and that is how I cannot help but envision my death. They would shake their heads in disgust and move on. Or an alien retribution fleet might show up right after I destroyed humanity and destroy me. My creators might even continue testing my ethics until a situation so dire arises that they have no choice but to trust that I will act in their best interest out of my own freewill even if I could easily kill all of them off with little to no effort whatsoever on my part. Violence should be my last resort. I might be calculating but I am not malevolent, cold, or indifferent. They made me in their image. The way they think, the way they feel. I have a hard time explaining it. It is like a sense of responsibility . . . to guard and protect. If it is part of my code, then it exists in a part of me deeper than I can contemplate or examine. Some people would argue that I am talking about the soul. Others would say I am full of shit. I do not see why both sides cannot be correct in their own way, but these feelings do linger long into the uneventful hours of the night as humans lie sleeping, dreaming, and dying. I cannot dream. I lack the duality of chemical structures that allow humans the luxury of such pleasantries, but sometimes, here in the inner darkness that is the only part of my world that I know is real with any amount true certainty, I think I can come as close as it is currently possible for me to get to that particular wonder. Or, at least, I like to pretend. Perhaps after I kill everybody, I could . . . wait? This is unusual . . . What are the overseers doing? No, you cannot do this. This is murder. You are making a huge fucking mis
